High Performance

The High Performance Plan was introduced in 2012 by Executive Director, Randy Schubert, and a Committee comprised of past administrators, coaches and players, with a record of success at the international level.  High Performance is utilized by other successful National Governing Bodies that fall under the USOC umbrella, as well as that of many world class sport organizations. The duties of this committee are to develop strategies and tactics that will enable our Men's and Women's National / Paralympic Teams (including U23 Men and U25 Women), collectively known as High Performance Program, to compete for Gold Medals at Rio 2016, while building long-term capability to sustain success thereafter.


High Performance Committee Purpose:

To implement a systematic and sustainable approach to Player Development, Coach Development, Training and Competition Excellence.


Player Development

  • Focus on early athlete identification, attraction and retention
  • Growing our pool of elite athletes, and comprehensive development
  • Exposure to the best coaches throughout the pipeline from Junior National Team through Senior Team

Coaches Development

  • Focus on increasing the pool of interested and available coaches
  • Identifying and closing skill gaps through training and experience
  • Driving a systematic approach to career pathing coaches through the funnel, and succession planning for Senior Men's and Women's positions

Training and Competition Excellence

  • Ensuring that USA Wheelchair Basketball Players have access to high quality and integrated training relative to what it takes to be elite
  • Ranging from traditional on-court activities, to more contemporary sport science methods
  • Focus on providing a more rigorous training schedule
  • Funding to support a competition schedule that enhances preparedness for World Championship and Paralympic competitions
