The NWBA Bill Duncan Good Guy Award is presented annually to a NWBA volunteer who exemplifies commitment to wheelchair basketball at the grassroots level through contributions to a local team, conference or to the national organization.
The award was created in memory and honor of Bill Duncan, a long time NWBA member. Bill founded the Golden State Road Warriors in 1976 and served in team, conference, national and international roles in the NWBA until his untimely death due to cancer in 2000. Bill was most committed to grassroots development and the growth of teams on the local level. He wanted to get as many people involved as possible, players, coaches, referees, and volunteers. He served tirelessly as an NWBA volunteer until his death. Upon Bill’s death, many NWBA friends and colleagues remembered him as one of the ‘good guys’. Along with his family, the NWBA chose to honor Bill with this award. Previous winners include: Cheryl Vines, Paul Jackson, Al Youakim, John Sikora, Vena McCormack, Joe and Roseanne Kirlin, Jo Fowler, Eddie Diggs, and Herman Keys, Sr. The winner will be announced at the NWBT and receive a plaque and a donation (made by Bill’s family) to their favorite NWBA team. If you would like to nominate someone, please send nominations via email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or via mail: Julie Duncan 1724 Buckner Court Lexington, KY 40504 To qualify a person must have been a volunteer with a NWBA team for a minimum of five years. Consideration should be given to individuals who have given of themselves not looking for reward and who complete the “thankless” jobs associated with running a team. {rokintensedebate} |
