| USA Under 20 Team Wins Gold in Australia |  |  |  |

The US Under 20 team has returned from Melbourne Australia with Gold medals hanging around their necks. The team comprised of 12 athletes and 4 staff went 7-0 during the competitions at the Inaugural Australian Youth Paralympic Games. All of the basketball competitions were held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Center in downtown Melbourne. The team traveled to Melbourne October 1-11. During the first two days the team practiced and did some sight-seeing including such areas as Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne Pier, Eureka Tower with it's 88th Floor viewing area, and a daily trip on the Formula 1 street course race track (actually the street we took to the venues each day).

| Saturday, July 11 2009 18:15 | Brian Bell and Steve Serio combined for 39 points in Team USA's 67-53 victory over Australia in the final game of pool play for both teams at the IWBF Junior World Championships. Bill Latham's double-double led Australia (22 points, 11 rebounds). The Americans were challenged for the first time in the tournament. They trailed by four points (18-14) at the end of the first quarter. They heated up in the second however outscoring the Aussies 18-11 to take a 32-29 lead into half. They led by seven to end the third and by as many as 16 in the fourth. The win upped the Americans record to 4-0 in the tournament and made them the top seed in Pool B. The U.S. returns to action at 3:30 tomorrow with a quarterfinal game against Canada.
