USA defeat Australia 68-52 in the World Championship opener.  Desi Miller had 15 points in the game. Becca Murray (Quickie Player of the Game) added 30 points and 8 rebounds. The U.S. will face Mexico at 1:00PM Eastern tomorrow June 21st.

The invitations for the 2014 USA Men's and Women's Wheelchair Basketball Team tryouts have gone out to all athletes.  Tryouts for both teams will be held January 2-6, 2014.  The men will hold their tryouts at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center and the women will hold their tryouts at Lakeshore Foundation.  The athletes below have accepted invitations to the USA Men's and Women's Tryouts.  These athletes will be competing for up to 18 spots to make the 2014 team.  The final 12 athletes will be selected in the Spring to compete at the World Championships.

Tryouts for the 2014 USA Men's and Women's World Championship Teams are set for January 2-6, 2014.  The women will hold their tryouts at Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, AL while the men will head to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.  The list of players and staff for the 2014 season will be released in the upcoming weeks after athletes accept/deny their invitations.

This week, we are featuring Team USA member Brian Bell. Brian played for the Indiana RHI Pacers and recently moved to Milan, Italy to play internationally. He was a member of the gold-medal winning USA U-23 team in 2005.

USA Wins Gold in Columbia, Qualifies for 2014 World Championships



Team cruises to victory against tough Argentina, sets the 
bar high for future competition 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – August 15, 2013. Team USA recently earned a gold medal finish
 at the IWBF America’s Cup in Bogota, Columbia. With the victory, USA clinched one of four 
qualifying bids to the men’s wheelchair basketball World Championships that will be held in 
Incheon, South Korea in July 2014. After going undefeated in pool play, USA handily defeated 
Argentina 67-36 in the gold medal game.

USA take home the Gold at the 2013 Americas Cup tournament defeating Argentina 62-36. Congratulations to USA, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil for qualifying for the 2014 World Championships!

USA will play Mexico in the semi finals at 2:30pm mountain time. USA, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina will represent the Americas Zone at the World Championships in Korea in 2014.

Good luck to NWBA officials Bill Kuerzi and Jaime Oseguera as they will take their written exam for IWBF officials Friday, August 9th. Kuerzi is getting re-certified and Jaime is a new official to the international game. Both are working hard and doing a great job in Bogota officiating several games throughout the tournament! Good luck!
