NWBA Names Interim Executive Director - Jim Scherr

THE NWBA NAMES INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Jim Scherr, former USOC CEO, named Executive Director of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association
 
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- August 24, 2015

The Board of Directors of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association today announced the appointment of Jim Scherr, former CEO of the USOC, as Interim Executive Director effective August 24, 2015. Sarah Castle, President of the Board of Directors, said, "On behalf of our Board, I am pleased to welcome Jim Scherr as the Association's Interim Executive Director. He brings to the role, among other assets, an extensive knowledge of the Olympic and Paralympic movement as well as a demonstrated ability to successfully manage sport organizations. We believe he is equipped to assist us to take the National Wheelchair Basketball Association to the next level." 

Mr. Scherr will manage the staff and the day-to-day affairs of the Association as well as focusing on increasing revenue through sponsorship, fundraising and raising the brand and profile of the NWBA. Mr. Scherr said, "I am honored by this appointment and excited about the opportunity to help lead the NWBA forward in the next steps of its evolution as an organization. The NWBA has experienced great success on the court and I am confident that we can build upon that success in the future. The sport has passionate and dedicated athletes, followers, and supporters. I look forward to working with the athletes and constituents to bring the organization and athletes to new heights in the future."

ABOUT JIM SCHERR:
Scherr, 54, has nearly 30 years of experience in the Olympic and Paralympic Movement including 10 years at the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee including seven years as the Chief Executive Officer. During his tenure the USOC reached all-time highs in medal performance, total and net revenue, revenue from sponsorship sales, and receipts from the sale of television rights. Prior to that Scherr was the Executive Director of USA Wrestling, leading a turn-around of the National Governing Body overseeing record growth of membership and athlete performance as well as executing a landmark capital campaign to help insure the future of the sport. Most recently Scherr was the Chief Operating Officer of the Inaugural European Games and the Chief Executive Officer of 776 Marketing.
