Milwaukee Lady Bucks Win 2016 NWBA Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament Defeating Denver Lady Rolling Nuggets

Seattle, Wash. – The Milwaukee Lady Bucks claimed the National Championship trophy at the 2016 NWBA Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament on the shooting powers of a pair of U.S. Paralympians Becca Murray and Desiree Miller, and Mareike Miller. The Bucks defeated the Denver Lady Nuggets, 66-36, at West Seattle High School on Sunday.

The trio accounted for 62 points with Mareike putting up 24 points, while Murray contributed 22 points, and Desiree followed with 16. Mareike was named the Tournament MVP.

U.S. Paralympians Natalie Schneider and Christina Schwab scored 32 of the 36 points for the Lady Rolling Nuggets. Schneider found the basket for 26 points, while Schwab scored 6 points.

3rd Place Game: Dallas Lady Mavericks 47, PossAbilities Shield Maidens 44

The Dallas Lady Mavericks’ Andrea Woodson-Smith took control in the third-place game against the PossAbilities Shield Maidens putting up 19 points to help secure the trophy with a 47-44 win. U.S. Paralympians Mackenzie Soldan (2012 Tennis) and Darlene Hunter reached double digits in the bronze-medal game with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Courtney Ryan and Anna Vargas were the top point scorers with 19 and 15 points each.

5th Place Game: University of Arizona 33, LWSRA Lady Hawks 31

The University of Arizona women won the fifth-place trophy with a last second shot to outlast the LWSRA Lady Hawks, 33-31. Shantelle Winslow set the pace for the Lady Wildcats with 12 points, and Sarah Heinzl was the second leading scorer with 8 points. The Lady Hawks’ top scorers were Zoe Voris with 14 points and Molly Welfie with 7 points.

Awards & Tournament Teams:

Elizabeth Floch of Parasport Spokane received the Tournament Sportsmanship Award, and Rhann Ibrahim of the University of Arizona was named the Most Improved Player.
