For the Week of October 31-November 6

The NWBA is proud to introduce the NWBA Junior Division Players of the Week – Junior Varsity and Junior Prep. This new program will provide recognition to student-athletes for their achievements on the basketball court during the prior week. This new program will be interactive for all fans to cast their votes via the NWBA Social Networks.

Fans are encouraged to rank the players below in the comment section, or tag the NWBA accordingly in a post. The Junior Division Team Representatives and Coaches will submit their ballots that account for 80 percent of the points, while online voting will account for the remaining 20 percent.

Please rank the players 1-2, where #1 vote receives 10 points, #2 receives 9 points, etc. The athlete with the most points will be named 2016 NWBA Junior Division Player of the Week. If there is a tie, the individual with the most #1 votes wins. If still tied, then most with #2 votes wins. If tied after #3 votes are tallied, players will be named Co-Players of the Week.

Online voting closes on Wednesday, November 9 at 5 p.m. Mountain. To have your online vote count, comment on the NWBA Facebook page post, or tag the NWBA on Twitter (@nwba).

NWBA Junior Player of the Week for October 31-November 6, 2016

Nominees (Alphabetical Order)

JUNIOR VARSITY NOMINEES (VOTE #1-2. Each athlete receives points for votes)

Andre’ DeWitt, Charlotte Rollin’ Hornets

Andre’ is a natural athlete who absolutely loves and belongs on a basketball court.  He has just completed his first season in organized wheelchair basketball and he has a very bright future.  He is able to be a game changer with his athletic ability, long arms and great hands (not just a great shooting touch, but a masterful defender that is averaging 3.4 steals per game).  He’s transitioned from the lone interior scorer/defender in our Prep program to one of our most versatile wings in our Varsity program.  Having Andre’ on the court allows us to dictate the speed of the game. For the weekend, DeWitt scored 52 points, snagged 28 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, and tallied 17 steals.

Josh Joines, Blaze Sports Hawks

Josh showed incredible skill and class, scoring a game high 24 points in the championship game of the Big Peach Slam Jam in Atlanta, Georgia. Josh shot over 50 percent from the field, despite constant double teams from the TIRR Hotwheels. Josh led his team passionately and displayed fantastic sportsmanship. In his game against TIRR, he also had 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

JUNIOR PREP NOMINEES (VOTE #1. Each athlete receives points for votes)

Preston Howell IV, Charlotte Rollin’ Hornets Prep-Purple

Preston is our floor general, and his vision of the court is unmatched in our program. He spent most of the week playing from the wing to avoid contact on a recently casted leg. He understands the game and makes his teammates better. He sealed our fate as Conference Champs by draining two free throws to close out the Championship game. His stat line was impressive leading the Hornets to a perfect 5-0 tournament run with 22 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds. In the championship game, he scored 6 points, including 2 for 2 from the foul line in the closing seconds of the game.
