Canada Outlasts U.S. Women at International Friendly on Day Two, 48-41

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – The U.S. Women’s National Team fell short in a come-from-behind victory to Canada earlier Thursday. Team Canada, who was down after the first quarter, 16-12, turned on the pressure in the second and third quarters to win, 48-41, at the Lakeshore Foundation. Both teams are playing a three-game series in preparation for the quickly approaching IWBF America’s Cup Qualifier in Cali, Colombia, August 21-31. 

For the second consecutive day, Rio gold medalist Abby Dunkin of New Braunfels, Texas, led Team USA with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Morgan Wood of Gordonville, Tennessee, put up 8 points. Two-time Paralympian and Rio gold medalist Desi Miller of Monroe, Washington, commanded the U.S. Women’s team with unselfish play, finishing the day with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and four assists. 

Arinn Young of Canada had the hot hand for the morning game scoring 12 points along the way, with R Lalonde putting up 9 points. 

The two teams will face each other one more time on Friday, August 4 at 9 p.m. Central, and can be seen via the live stream on the NWBA Facebook page. 

U.S. Women’s Head Coach, Trooper Johnson, San Lorenzo, California, and was a 15-time U.S. Men’s National Team member and two-time Paralympic medalist. The NWBA Hall of Fame head coach is joined by assistant coaches Amy Spangler of Madison, Wisconsin, and Adam Kramer of Northport, Alabama. Athletic Trainer Karla Wessels of Lexington, Kentucky, and Team Leader Kearstin Gehlhausen of Denver, Colorado, also return for a second term.
