Sanchez fights for another National Team Roster

At the age of eight, Jorge Sanchez was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma in his left leg. There were a series of complications that forced him to have to make the decision to amputate his leg because of the cancer. Although he was then cancer free he had to figure out how to be a kid again. At the age of 13 he found a love for wheelchair basketball, and was eventually recruited to play at the University of Texas-Arlington on a full ride scholarship.

Through out his collegiate years he was a three-time First-Team All American and a captain for the Mavericks. In 2014 he won his first national championship with the Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks and was selected as a reserve top 16 for the Men’s National Team. Sanchez then went on to play professionally overseas in Giulianova, Italy.

Sanhez played alongside teammate Aaron Gouge for the Dallas Mavericks where they were both named to the First-Team All-Tournament Players. Sanchez continued to hone in on his shooting skills to get where he is today. His notes his leadership on the court provides confidence in him as a player and gives the rest of the team confidence as well when playing.

“I am always striving for greatness. I work hard, play hard everyday in practice so there is no reason we should ever lose a game,” said Sanchez.

He now has his sights on making the 2020 U.S. Paralympic team. He has played alongside many members of the national team throughout the years and has the experience and talent to make it all the way. He is dedicated to his training and the games they have to get through to qualify in just a few years.
