Hard working Boie joins National Team

John Boie is known as one of the hardest working players on any team he plays for. His personal motto is, “Hard work overcomes any amount of talent.” He worked his way from playing on two U-19 USA National Teams to winning not one but three National Championships with the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater to now representing Team USA in America’s Qualifier. Before his seemingly glory days, he is another graduate of the NWBA Junior Division.

Boie played for both the Mad City Badgers and the Wheelin Wizards in his home state of Wisconsin. His greatest memories come from remaining in his homeland to play and grow his abilities. He recalls winning the 2012 National Championship by 41 points as his all time favorite basketball memory to date. Boie also claims Michael Jordan has given him a lot of inspiration to become the player he is manifesting into and watching Jordan pushed him to constantly perfect his skills and abilities.

In 2015, he competed at the Kitakyushu Champions Cup tournament in Japan. However, coming a little short for the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2015, he worked harder than ever to come back with sights on Tokyo 2020. After a three-day selection camp earlier in the year he got the news he had been officially selected to the U.S. Men’s National Team.

“When they finally read my name for my first time making the team, it was pretty surreal. Going into the other room with the guys who made the team was really special,” said Boie.

He notes he’s grown up playing with a number of the men on the national team and to be a part of something this special with each of them is that much more meaningful. He knows there is still a long road ahead of him before securing a spot for 2020 but he is confident in his play and believes he will be able to secure that one slot.
