This Week in the NWBA (October 22nd-29th)

This weekend, October 28-29, the NWBA hosts several tournaments including the Fright in the Fort in Fort Wayne, Indiana; the 2nd Annual Halloween Hoops Bash in Auburn, Alabama; and the 12th Annual Mizzou Classic in Columbia, Missouri.

All events are open to the public. The NWBA asks that teams and spectators share their experience by posting their photos and tagging the NWBA. Use the hashtag #NWBA to be featured on our social media sites.

 

Fright in the Fort

The Turnstone Flyers hosts “Fright in the Fort,” at 3320 North Clinton St, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Fright in the Fort is a two-day competition for Prep and Varsity Divisions. Twelve teams are scheduled to play for the top positions in the two divisions. Awards include two MVP titles, one for males and one for females.

The Varsity Division will feature pool play. Varsity Pool A is comprised of the RHI Racers of Indianapolis, Indiana; the Varsity Turnstone Flyers of Fort Wayne, Indiana; the Peoria Wildcats of Peoria, Illinois; and the Miami Valley Jr. Raptors of Beaver Creek, Ohio.

Pool B is comprised of the Achievement Centers Jr. Wheelchair Cavaliers (Jr. Cavs) of Strongsville, Ohio; the Michigan Rolling Pistons of Ann Arbor, Michigan; the St. Louis Jr. Rolling Rams of St. Peters, Missouri; and the Mary Free Bed Jr. Pacers Varsity of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The RHI Jr. Racers of Indianapolis, Indiana; the Jr. Turnstone Flyers of Fort Wayne, Indiana; the LWSRA Hawks of New Lenox of Illinois, Michigan; the Rolling Pistons of Ann Harbor Michigan; and the Mary Free Bed Jr. Pacers of Grand Rapids, Michigan will compete in the Prep Division.

Turnstone empowers people with disabilities to achieve their highest potential by providing comprehensive services and programs. Turnstone aspires to a world that accepts and values people based on their abilities. The addition of the Plassman Athletic Center at Turnstone has allowed Turnstone to host a variety of regional and national tournaments in various sports drawing athletes from across the United States. We have hosted a prep and varsity tournament since 1998, the “Fright In The Fort” has become a staple of wheelchair basketball in the Midwest.

2nd Annual Halloween Hoops Bash

Auburn University hosts the 2nd Annual Halloween Hoops Bash at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum located at 650 Biggio Dr., in Auburn, Alabama.

Divisions II and III will compete in this two-day tournament. Competing teams include Auburn University, Auburn DIII, Shepherd DIII, and Lakeshore DIII. 

The tournament Saturday is Round-Robin style.Third place and the Championship game will commence Sunday. 

Saturday after the game at 6:00 p.m., children and fans are encouraged to trick-or-treat around the court. Student-athletes will provide candy for the event and be available for photos and questions.

12th Annual Mizzou Classic

The University of Missouri hosts the 12th Annual Mizzou Classic October 28-29th at 213 Rothwell Gymnasium in Columbia, Missouri. The two-day tournament consists of four divisions, DI, DII, DIII and the Intercollegiate Men’s Division.

Teams competing in the Mizzou Classic include: the University of Missouri of Columbia, Missouri; NMCSD San Diego Wolfpack of San Diego, California; Missouri Predators of Kansas City, Missouri; and the Kansas Wheelhawks of Lawrence, Kansas.
