2018 U.S. Men's & Women’s Selection Camp Applications and Procedures

 The NWBA is pleased to announce the 2018 U.S. Men’s and Women’s Selection Camp Procedures and Athlete Application are now available for eligible athletes.

All athletes interested in trying out for the U.S. Men’s or Women’s National Team, which will compete in the 2018 World Championship, must attend the Selection Camp.

· The Men’s Selection Camp is January 2-7, 2018 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

· The Women’s Selection Camp is January 14-18, 2018 at the Olympic Training Center Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Players are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Housing, meals and ground transportation once in Colorado Springs are provided by the NWBA.

To be eligible, athletes must:

· be a natural born citizen of the United States or in the process of becoming a U.S. citizen; and

· hold a valid U.S. passport that will not expire for six months after the conclusion of the Championships or obtain one prior to departure;

Players must be willing and able to attend mandatory training camps and a competition during the spring or summer of 2018 and the World Championships, August 16-26 in Hamburg, Germany.

All players must complete the online application to be considered and receive an invite to try-out.

The deadlines to complete the online application to be considered and receive an invite to try-out.

·         The deadline to submit a NWBA High Performance Men’s Player Application is 11:59PM MST on November 15, 2017.

·         The deadline to submit a NWBA High Performance Women’s Player Application is 11:59PM MST on November 22, 2017.

The U.S. Men’s Selection Camp list of invitees will be announced no later than November 17, 2017.

The U.S. Women’s Selection Camp list of invitees will be announced no later than December 1, 2017.

About U.S. Men’s National Team

Team USA, who last lost at the 2014 World Championships, kept its perfect winning streak alive by winning the 2017 IWBF Men’s America’s Qualifier in Colombia and is qualified for the 2018

World Championships in Hamburg, Germany, and the 2019 ParaPan Am Games in Peru. The U.S. Men won the 2016 Paralympic Games for the first time since 1988 and outscored the field 614-349. The U.S. Men’s Team led eight of 12 stat categories in Rio. The U.S. Men’s Team won a silver medal at the 2014 World Championships in South Korea. In 2012, Team USA won a bronze medal at the London Paralympics.

About U.S. Women’s National Team

The U.S. Women’s Team finished with a silver medal at the 2017 IWBF Women’s America’s Qualifier, and has qualified for the 2018 World Championships in Hamburg, Germany, and 2019 ParaPan Am Games in Peru. The U.S. Women’s team has won the last three of four Paralympic Games (2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing, and 2016 Rio). At the Rio Paralympics, Team USA led six statistical categories over their seven-game stretch, and marks the third time that they have gone undefeated at the Paralympics.
