The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) offered several sanctioned events this past week in Alabama, California, Kansas, New Jersey and Oklahoma.

 

ASCAA Wheelchair Basketball Bash (Jan. 11-13)

The American Collegiate Society for Adapted Athletics hosted the ASCAA Wheelchair Basketball Bash from January 11-13, 2018. The tournament was held at the YMCA Farha Center, located at 640 S. YMCA Drive, Andover, KS.

2018 Pioneer Classic (Jan. 12-14)

The Lakeshore Foundation hosted the 2018 Pioneer Classic from January 12-14, 2018. The tournament was held at the Lakeshore Foundation, located at 4000 Ridgeway Drive, Birmingham, AL.

For the Adult Division II tournament, the Tampa Bay Strong Dogs of Tampa Bay, FL were named the champions. The Charlotte Rollin Hornets of Charlotte, NC and Ft. Lauderdale Sharks of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, placed second and third.

In the Adult Division III tournament, the Mobile Patriots of Mobile, AL were named the champions. The Shephard Stealers of Atlanta, GA and Orlando Magic Wheels of Orlando, FL placed second and third.

The Adult Division II individual awards went to Chris Goodwin of the Lakeshore Storm for Best Sportsmanship and Robbie Gorden of the Tampa Bay Strong Dogs was named the MVP.

The Adult Division III individual awards went to Patria Brown of the Shepherd Stealers for Best Sportsmanship and Anthony McDaniel of the Mobile Patriots was named the MVP.

Tulsa Roustabout’s Home Tournament (Jan. 13)

The City of Tulsa hosted the Tulsa Roustabout’s Home Tournament on January 13, 2018. The tournament took place at the O’Brien Park, located at 6149 N. Lewis Ave., Tulsa, OK.

1st Annual Nets Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (Jan. 13-14)

The Wheelchair Sports Federation hosted the 1st Annual Nets Wheelchair Basketball Tournament from January 13-14, 2018. The tournament took place at the Hackensack Middle School located at 360 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ.

The competition began with a round robin tournament, resulting in the Connecticut Spokebenders of Meriden, CT placing first place with a 4-0 record. The New England Blazers of Saugus, MS placed second with a record of 3-1 and the Brooklyn Nets of Brooklyn, NY rounded out the top three.

To earn a spot in the championship game, the New England Blazers and Brooklyn Nets played a hard-fought game that resulted in a 50-49 overtime victory for the Nets. The championship game ended with the Spokebenders beating the Nets 53-30. Josh Rodriguez of the Connecticut Spokebenders was named the MVP of the tournament.

Central CA Juniors Tournament (Jan. 13-14)

The Valley Children’s Adaptive Sports hosted the Central CA Juniors Tournament from January 13-14, 2018. The tournament took place at the John W. Wells Youth Center, located at 701 5th Street, Madera, CA.

The Rancho Renegades of Downy, CA won the round robin tournament, finishing the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record. The San Diego Hammer of San Diego, CA won second place with a record of 2-2.
