This Week in the NWBA (Jan. 15-21)

The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) is excited to offer sanctioned events in California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nebraska, Nevada, Ontario (Canada), Pennsylvania and Texas.

All events are open to the public. The NWBA asks that teams and spectators share their experience by posting their photos and tagging the NWBA. Use the hashtag #NWBA to be featured on our social media sites.

 

U.S. Women’s National Team Selection Camp (Jan. 15-18)

The NWBA will host the U.S. Women’s National Team Selection Camp from January 15-18, 2018 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Throughout the camp, 24 of our nation’s top wheelchair basketball players will compete in scrimmages and run a multitude of drills to earn a spot on the 2018 U.S. Women’s team. The team will meet again in the following months for the selection of the final roster of 12 for the 2018 International Wheelchair Basketball Federation World Championships.

Las Vegas YUCCAS DII and DIII (Jan. 17-18)

The City of Las Vegas and Paralympic Sports Club of Las Vegas will be hosting the Las Vegas YUCCAS DII and DIII tournament from January 17-18, 2018. The competition will be held at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, located at 4505 S Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV.

The tournament will feature the following six Adult Division II teams: Austin Rec’ers of Austin, Texas, LA Clippers of Los Angeles, CA, Las Vegas YUCCAS of Las Vegas, NV, San Diego Silverbacks of San Diego, CA, Sacramento Royals of Sacramento, CA and the Kodiak Boyle Heights of Huntington Park, CA.

The tournament will also feature the following five Adult Division III teams: Phoenix Suns of Phoenix, AZ, Tucson Lobos of Tucson, AZ, Austin Rec’ers of Austin, TX, Shasta Lakers of Redding, CA and the Utah Wildcats of Ogden, UT.

Each team is guaranteed to play four games and there will not be a winner or top three ranked by the end of the tournament.

20th Annual Katie Kerlin Jr. Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (Jan. 19-21)

The Carousel House Recreation Center will be hosting the 20th Annual Katie Kerlin Jr. Wheelchair Basketball Tournament from January 19-21, 2018. The tournament will be held at the Carousel House, located at 4300 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia, PA and the High School of the Future, located at 4021 Parkside Ave., Philadelphia, PA.

The tournament will feature the following four Junior Prep Division teams: Katie’s Komets of Collegeville, PA, Fairfax Falcons of Fairfax, VA, Bennett Blazers of Baltimore, MD and the New York Rolling Fury of New York City, NY.

The tournament will also feature the following six Junior Varsity Division teams: Katie’s Komets of Collegeville, PA, Fairfax Falcons of Fairfax, VA, Bennett Blazers of Baltimore, MD, New York Rolling Fury of New York City, NY, Sportable Spokes of Richmond, VA and the Ryan Martin Foundation Trojans of Simsbury, CT.

This will be a two-division round robin that turns into a single elimination tournament, with consolation rounds to determine 1st through 6th.

5th Annual Miami Heat Wheels Invitational Tournament (Jan. 19-21)

The Miami Heat Wheels will be hosting the 5th Annual Miami Heat Wheels Invitational Tournament from January 19-21, 2018. The tournament will be held at the Miami Springs Recreation Center, located at 1401 Westward Dr., Miami Springs, FL.

The tournament will feature the following six teams from multiple divisions: Sunrise Suns of Sunrise, FL, Rancho Renegades of Downey, CA, Toronto Rollin Raptors of Nepean, Ontario, Miami Heat Wheels of Miami Beach, FL, Tampa Bay Strong Dogs of Tampa, FL, and the Ft. Lauderdale Sharks of Lauderhill, FL.

Sacramento Rollin Kings Shootout (Jan. 19-21)

The Capital Adaptive Athletes Foundation will be hosting the Sacramento Rollin Kings Shootout from January 19-21, 2018. The tournament will be held at Harper Junior High School, located at 4000 E Covell Blvd., Davis, CA.

The tournament will feature the following five Adult Division I teams: Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks of Dallas, TX, Seattle Sonics of Seattle, WA, Golden State Road Warriors of Milpitas, CA, Albuquerque Kings of Albuquerque, NM, and the Sacramento Rollin King of Davis, CA.

This will be a round robin tournament, with each team facing each other at least once.

Toronto Rollin Raptors DI Tournament (Jan. 19-21)

Wheelchair Basketball Canada will host the Toronto Rollin Raptors DI Tournament from January 19-21, 2018. The tournament will be held at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, located at 875 Morningside Ave, Toronto, IA.

The tournament will feature the following three Adult Division I teams: NMCSD Wolf Pack of San Diego, CA, New York Rollin Knicks of Floral Park, NY and the Toronto Rollin Raptors of Nepean, Ontario.

Basketball Bonanza VII (Jan. 20-21)

The Chicago Park District and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab will host the Basketball Bonanza VII from January 20-21, 2018. The tournament will be held at Warren Park, located at 6601 N. Western Ave., Chicago, IL.

The tournament will feature the following five Junior Varsity division teams: Chicago Skyhawks of Chicago, IL, LWSRA Hawks of New Lenox, IL, Synergy Jr. Bulls of Carol Stream, IL, St. Louis Jr. Rollin Rams of St. Peters, MO, and the BlazeSports Jr. Hawks of Norcross, GA.

Dawg Pound Showdown (Jan. 20-21)

The Eastern Nebraska Wheelchair Athletics Association will host the Dawg Pound Showdown from January 20-21, 2018. The tournament will be held at the University of Nebraska – Omaha, located at 6001 Dodge St., Omaha, NE.

Winter Classic WC Basketball Tournament (Jan. 20-21)

The Dallas Jr. WC Mavericks will host the Winter Classic WC Basketball Tournament from January 20-21, 2018. The tournament will be held at the University of Texas at Arlington, located at 801 Greek Row, Arlington, TX.

The tournament will feature the following two Junior Prep Division teams: Dallas Junior Mavs - Prep of Dallas, TX and the Strap Stars of San Antonio, TX.

The tournament will also feature the following four Junior Varsity Division teams: Tulsa Jammers of Tulsa, OK, Dallas Junior Mavs – Blue of Dallas, TX, Mississippi WheelCats of Clinton, MS, and the Austin Jr. Rec’ers of Austin, TX.

In the Varsity division, every team will play each other at least once and then compete for first place based off of their win-loss record.

MV Raptors Double Header (Jan. 21)

Miami Valley Adaptive Sports will be hosting the MV Raptors Double Header on January 21, 2018. The games will be held at the Payne Recreation Center, located at 3800 Main St., Dayton, OH.
