19th Annual Phoenix WC Suns Invitational Roundup (Jan. 26-28)

The Ability360 Phoenix Wheelchair Suns hosted the 19th Annual Phoenix WC Suns Invitational roundup from January 26-28, 2018. The tournament was held at the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center, located at 5031 E Washington St, Phoenix, Arizona.

It was an Adult Division I tournament, where each of the seven teams played four games. The New York Rollin’ Knicks of Floral Park, NY, who were ranked second in their division for the January team rankings, finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. The University of Arizona – DI of Tucson, AZ and Denver Rolling Nuggets of Boulder, CO, both finished with a 3-1 record to tie for second place.

University of Arizona Women’s Wheelchair Invitational (Jan. 26-28)

The University of Arizona hosted the University of Arizona Women’s Wheelchair Invitational from January 26-28, 2018. The tournament was held at the University Recreation Center, located at 1400 E. 6th Street, Tucson, AZ.

During the tournament, there were exhibition charity games that raised over $500 for EMERGE, which will go to a woman’s shelter and to fight against domestic abuse. The University of Alabama of Northport, AL and University of Texas - Arlington of Arlington, TX dominated the Intercollegiate Women’s Division tournament, both going undefeated and winning by an average margin of more than 30. The PossAbilities Shield Maidens of Loma Linda, CA had the best record of the Women’s Division, going 2-1 in the tournament.

BlazeSports Big Peach Slam Jam (Jan. 27-28)

BlazeSports hosted the 2nd Annual BlazeSports Big Peach Slam Jam from January 27-28, 2018. The tournament was held at the LakePoint Sporting Community’s Championship Center, located at 755 Hwy 293, Emerson, GA. It was a bracket style, all-day event that featured Junior Prep and Junior Varsity Division teams.

The 2nd Annual BlazeSports Big Peach Slam Jam, sponsored by Gold Medal Sponsors Donaco Medical Supply and Waypoint Residential, included 7 of the Top 12 NWBA nationally ranked Junior Varsity Division teams and 2 of the Top 5 Junior Prep Division teams competing for the coveted National Championship.

In the Prep Division, the Charlotte Hornets of Cornelius, NC survived an overtime scare to the BlazeSports Jr. Hawks of Norcross, GA on Saturday to reach the championship game on Sunday, winning 32-22 vs. the Lakeshore Sharks of Birmingham, AL. Charlotte was led by Prep Division All-Tournament MVP, Preston Howell and Lakeshore was led by fellow All-Tournament team member Seth Horne to get to the finals.

In the Varsity Division, the Final Four consisted of Houston Jr. Hotwheels of Houston, TX vs. the Milwaukee WASA Bucks of Brookfield, WI and the BlazeSports Jr. Hawks of Norcross, GA vs. RHI Racers of Indianapolis, IN in the Semi-Final Games on Sunday. The WASA Bucks were up 34-30 at Halftime of their semi-final only to see Houston pull away, 64-52 to make the championship game. The Jr. Hawks and RHI Racers were tied 27-27 at Halftime, with the Jr. Hawks pulling away for a 64-46 victory to make the Championship Game.

The Varsity Championship Game was a close match for most of the game, until the Houston Jr. Hotwheels pulled away from the BlazeSports Jr. Hawks with a 64-52 victory. Houston was led by Varsity Division All-Tournament MVP, Carrington Marendes, scoring 35 points in the finals. The Jr. Hawks were led by seniors KJ Reese with 13 points and Varsity Division All-Tournament member Sam Armas with 11 points respectively.

2018 Junior Division Regional Qualifier (Jan. 27-28)

Turnstone hosted the 2018 Junior Division Regional Qualifier from January 27-28, 2018. The tournament was held at 3320 North Clinton St, Fort Wayne, IN.

In the Junior Varsity Division tournament, the Peoria Wildcats of Peoria, IL. finished the tournament with a perfect record of 5-0. The Rancho Renegades of Downey, CA and Motor City Wheelz – Varsity of Ann Arbor, MI finished second and third with a record of 3-2.

In the Junior Prep tournament, the LWSRA Rolling Hawks of New Lenox, IL. were undefeated with a record of 5-0. The Turnstone Flyers of Fort Wayne, IN and RHI Racers of Indianapolis, IN finished in second and third place with a record of 3-2.
