COVID-19 Protocols for the 2021 NWBA Toyota Adult & Junior Wheelchair Basketball National Championships

The NWBA is dedicated to protecting the health and safety of our athletes, coaches, officials, parents, fans, volunteers, and staff planning to attend this event. These protocols have been arranged as an effort to reduce the risk of exposure and presence of COVID-19 for anyone in attendance for this event. These protocols also apply to the NWBA Annual Assembly and Divisional Annual Meetings that are being hosted in conjunction with this event.

The protocols rely upon rules and regulations set forth by public health authorities such as the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and Sedgewick County Public Health Department, which is the local health authority in Wichita, KS.


COVID-19 Testing Information

Free COVID-19 testing will be available on site for athletes, fans, and staff part of the event. All will have the opportunity to get tested during the event. Although not required, we encourage all to utilize the free testing provided, and if you feel any symptoms related to COVID-19 during the event, the CDC strongly suggests you do so. Visit Wichita staff and NWBA Leadership will test multiple times throughout the tournament. A negative test is not required to enter the facility, however all event attendees must still follow all safety measures provided in COVID-19 Protocols for the 2021 NWBA Toyota Adult & Junior Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. 

  • Testing is being provided by Wichita State University and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. 
  • Testing will be available before the start of the tournament at the Wichita Marriott on Wednesday, June 23 from 12pm to 8pm. 
  • Testing will then be available at the venue, Wichita Hoops, for the duration of the tournament. Tents will be set up outside offering free testing Thursday-Sunday from 7am to 8pm. 
  • WSU and KDHE will be offering both PCR saliva tests and nasal antigen tests.
  • If you are feeling any symptoms of COVID-19, CDC would suggest taking a test immediately. 
  • Results of PCR tests will be available approximately 6-8 hours after collection of the sample.
  • Results of antigen tests will be available approximately 15 minutes after collection of the sample.
  • If a test comes back positive you will adhere to the CDC and local public health authorities on the steps for isolation; they are listed in a following section in the protocols.

These protocols are subject to change if necessary, by mandates from Sedgewick County Health Department, the Center of Disease Control & Prevention and facilities.

NWBA Toyota National Championship Series

The NWBA awards eight National Championships annually to its various divisions of play. Teams play in regular season games and tournaments from October to March/April, culminating with an invite to the teams respective divisional national tournament. The “NWBA Toyota National Championship Series” is the umbrella of the eight divisional National Wheelchair Basketball Tournaments.
