2020 U.S. Men's and Women's National Team Athlete Selection Procedures & Application

Deadline to submit Player Applications is 11:59 p.m. MT on November 20, 2019

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The NWBA is pleased to announce that the Athlete Selection Procedures and Athlete Applications are now available for the 2020 U.S. Men's and Women's National Wheelchair Basketball Teams. The Athlete Selection Procedures are the eligibility requirements and process for the selection of the 2020 U.S. Men's and Women's National Wheelchair Basketball Teams. Both team’s final rosters will consist of 12 athletes that will compete at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan from August 25 to September 6, 2020. The deadline to submit an NWBA High Performance Player Application for Men and Women is 11:59 p.m. MT on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. 

All athletes interested in trying out for the 2020 U.S. Men's and Women's National Wheelchair Basketball National Teams must complete a 2020 NWBA High Performance Player Application. Please click on the links below to complete a 2020 NWBA High Performance Player Application.

To be eligible for consideration as an athlete for the 2020 U.S. Men's and Women's National Wheelchair Basketball Teams an individual must be: a U.S Citizen, hold a valid U.S. passport by February 29, 2020, and be classifiable in accordance with IWBF International Classification system. Please read the attached Athlete Selection Procedures for a complete list of athlete eligibility requirements.

A valid membership with the NWBA for 2019-20 and 2020-2021 seasons are required to submit an 2020 NWBA High Performance Player Application. Current 2019-20 NWBA members should use their profile associated with their activate NWBA membership. If an applicant does not have an active NWBA membership they will be prompted to purchase one during the NWBA High Performance Player Application process. Invites to selection camps will be provided by the NWBA High Performance Selection Committee. The following are the selection camps for the 2020 Toyota U.S. Men's and Women's National Wheelchair Basketball Teams:

2020 Toyota Team USA Men’s Selection Camp
January 2-7, 2020 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO

Travel Days Information:

- Arrival Day is January 2nd

- Departure Day is January 7th

2020 Toyota Team USA Women’s Selection Camp
January 15-19, 2020 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO

Travel Days Information:

- Arrival Day is January 15th

- Departure Day is January 19th

Housing and meals will be provided by the NWBA/OPTC. Players are responsible for their own transportation to and from the OTC for selection camps. The OTC Shuttle Service can be provided from the Colorado Springs Airport to the OTC for flight times between 4:30 a.m. MT and 10:30 p.m. MT each day.

Please be prepared to provide all of the following information on your NWBA High Performance Player Application:

-Basic Info (Name, Gender, Age, etc.)
-Contact Info (Address, Email, Phone, Social Security, etc.)
-Personal Info (Height, Weight, etc.)
-Experience Info (Team, Coach Name/Email, Awards, etc.)
-Equipment & Apparel (Wheelchair Dimensions, Apparel Sizing, etc.)
-Travel Info (Preferred Airports, etc.)
-Documentation (Copy of Passport and Drivers License)
-Emergency & Medical Info (Contact, Physician Info, etc.)
-Electronic Signature of NWBA Code of Conduct
-SafeSport Certificate Upload

The U.S. Men’s Selection Camp list of invitees will be announced in late November. The U.S. Women’s Selection Camp list of invitees will be announced in late November/early December.

This is the first step in the process for both the U.S. Men’s and Women’s teams to defend their gold-medal performances from the 2016 Rio Paralympics. The NWBA Board of Directors, High Performance Committee, National Team staff and NWBA management are excited to support these athletes in 2020 in their Paralympic journey!
