COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – The Junior Division Executive Committee has announced the 2019-20 December’s Rankings for Varsity and Prep. These are the second set of power rankings released for the Junior Division for the 2019-20 season.
The top 16 ranked teams for Varsity will earn an invite to play in the Toyota NWBA Varsity Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. Teams ranked 17-32 will receive an invite to participate in the Toyota NWBA Varsity Invitational Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. If a team does not accept their bid for postseason play, invitations will be sent to the next team, in order of ranking, until both tournaments are filled.
Varsity Overview
The WASA Jr. Bucks continue to dominate the Division and hold on to the top spot for Varsity, but things are interesting throughout the top 10. As we move towards the halfway point of the season, the Cincinnati Dragons have played a strong schedule and racked up impressive wins resulting in their first ranking as a top four team. In the Eastern Conference, the Fairfax Falcons looked deep and fast in passing their first real national challenge from the Rancho Halos, who played hard despite the challenge of traveling all the way across the country. The RMF Foundation Trojans look to be developing into a second threat from the east thanks to the emergence of some younger players with physicality and confident shooting.
It’s important to note that several games were affected by the absence of major players due to injury or other commitments. In the end, the rankings focus on results.
Prep Overview
In the Prep Division, the story continues to be the dominance of the defending NWBA Prep National Champion Bennett Blazers, but competitive games at the Rockford Holiday Tournament showed a number of teams in the midwest maturing and playing high quality basketball. The Chicago Skyhawks rolled home with the tournament championship in Rockford by stacking wins over strong Nebraska Red Dawgs and Sportability Rolling Panthers squads. Overall, it is shaping up to be a very strong year for the prep division.
