COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The National Wheelchair Basketball Association and the Junior Division Executive Committee are proud to announce that the Junior Division is now accepting applications for the 2020 Timothy J. Nugent High School Academic All-American Presented by Toyota. The deadline to submit applications for the 2020 Timothy J. Nugent Academic All-American is 11:59 p.m. Central time on Saturday, February 1, 2020.

The Timothy J. Nugent High School Academic All-American recognizes athletes 10th through 12th grade. The awards are named after Timothy J. Nugent, who founded the NWBA 70 seasons ago. Dr. Nugent valued education and being prepared for real world success and independence.  We hope the spirit of these awards honor his mission.

Dr. Nugent realized the number one tool to improve a person's place in society was education. The Junior Division remembers Dr. Nugent by pushing the next generation of leaders towards the power of education.

The theme of this year's awards is athletes’ life goals outside of sport. While wheelchair basketball is obviously a big part of life for everyone involved with the NWBA, sometimes it’s important to remember that there is simply more to life than this sport. Applicants must submit a project that discusses these goals and how they plan to achieve them. These goals could be their interest in pursuing further education, a specific career, and “bucket list” type goals.

Please note that the Academic Achievers and All-Americans are national programs for the entire Junior Division (and applicable athletes of the Adult Division).  Individual conferences may have their own academic award programs that are not related to these awards for national recognition.

Please submit all applications and questions for Academic All-American to Emily Hoskins by email at emilyhoskins6@gmail.com or by mail at Emily Hoskins, ATTN: High School All-American OR Academic Achievers, 752 Shandale Drive, Madison, TN 37115.
