NWBA Athletes,

The Board of Directors is announcing the implementation of the NWBA Athletes’ Advisory Council (AAC), as per Article 11 of NWBA Bylaws. All members should review this language to understand the purpose, qualifications, election / selection process and other critical aspects of the AAC. The AAC is comprised of seven individuals, six of which are to be voted in by those members with a vote.

At a summary level, the AAC will:

- Bring the athlete voice to the Board and Committees

- Actively participate in strategic initiatives

- Regularly attend Committee and/or Board Meetings

The Chair, Vice Chair and USOPC AAC representative (three positions) will all hold a position on the Board of Directors of the NWBA. Other AAC representatives will support Committees and Task Forces commissioned by the NWBA President. Implementing the AAC continues to ensure that we have the Athlete / Member voice involved in the leadership of the organization.

This is an additional step by NWBA Leadership to ensure that we have increased athlete voice in the governance of the organization. Our Founder, Dr. Tim Nugent, was adamant that the organization be led by its membership. Additionally, the NWBA seeks to continually align with best practices from other sport organizations.

Timeline:

- Announce NWBA AAC (March 6th)

- Reminder sent to membership (April 1st)

- Candidates submit interest (by end of day April 8th)

- Publish candidates and voting tool (April 13th)

- Voting closes (April 20th)

- Voting for Chair and Vice Chair (by end of day April 22nd)

The NWBA National Office will send an e-mail to all members eligible to hold an AAC role. If you receive that message and are interested in being considered for the AAC, please communicate your interest by e-mailing your resume and biography to Bruce Fischbach, Governance Chair, at bruce.fischbach@usd.edu.

The National Office will work through the various steps and timeline mentioned above. If you feel that you have the knowledge, skills and capabilities to partner with the Board and NWBA Leadership to advance the mission of the organization, please consider putting your name forward to roll up your sleeves and follow the steps mentioned above.

All communications will be sent to the e-mail on file for current year, or for athletes no longer competing to their last e-mail of record.
