Adult Division I

2020 NWBA Toyota Adult Division I Wheelchair Basketball National Championships

March 12-14

Wichita, Kansas

#2 Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks defeated #1 New York Rollin’ Knicks, 80-72

In the fifth championship game meeting between the Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks and New York Rolling Knicks in the past seven tournaments, the team from Texas now holds a 3-2 advantage.

Winning 72nd edition of the National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament 80-72 over the two-time defending champion Knicks, it is the 16th title for the Mavs, all since 1997.

Only the Milwaukee Bucks, second to Dallas in 2016 and to New York last year, have made it to a final since 2014.

It was an epic clash between two powerful and talented sides. While the Knicks were clearly the dominant team in its preliminary games, Dallas hadn't shown its true self until the final.

From the start, it was a puncher's battle with the two stalwarts trading blow for blow, basket for basket. Dallas led after the first ten minutes 23-21 and it was still a 2-point margin at the half 40-38.

Dallas would maintain the lead through three quarters, 59-51 and push the margin to as much as 11 points early in the fourth. The Knicks would never get closer than six the rest of the game.

Jason Nelms led Dallas and all scorers with 30 points and would be honored as the game MVP. The Mavericks' Bobbie Nickleberry, named tournament MVP for the third time, and Zach Blair each added 21. Aaron Gouge scored the other 8.

Steve Serio and Patrick Anderson had 24 points apiece for the Knicks with David Eng scoring 22.
