NWBA Launches New Athlete Safety Procedures

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The NWBA continues to put significant emphasis on athlete safety and ensuring appropriate procedures are in place for the NWBA. The NWBA is dedicated to taking measures to ensure the safety of all athletes, particularly our youth. Please thoroughly read all of the information provided below.


2020 SafeSport Code

The U.S. Center for SafeSport updated the 2020 SafeSport Code as of April 1, 2020. Click below to view the revised "Code" and document highlighting noteworthy revisions to the Code.
 


2020 Minor Athlete Abuse and Prevention Policies (MAAPP)

As part of our evolution of compliance with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the U.S. Center for SafeSport (The Center), the NWBA has updated the Minor Athlete Abuse and Prevention Policies (MAAPP). Please review the MAAPP at your earliest convenience and note that these policies will be implemented as of June 1, 2020. As a reminder, all members are REQUIRED to follow these policies and complete the appropriate annual training.
 


Reporting a SafeSport Alleged Violation

As you will notice, the updated MAAPP includes a reporting policy which outlines an online option for individuals to report a SafeSport alleged violation to the NWBA. This newly created electronic reporting system through SportsEngine will provide an easier and anonymous way for individuals to report a SafeSport alleged violation.
 


U.S. Center for SafeSport’s Core Center for SafeSport Training and Refresher Courses

The U.S. Center for SafeSport’s “Core Center for SafeSport Training” is valid for one (1) year after completing it. In subsequent years users must take a Refresher Course.
 

Optional SafeSport Training for Youth Athletes

The U.S. Center for SafeSport provides Training for Youth Athlete courses. These free online age-appropriate trainings are designed as an introduction for minor athletes and their parents or other caregivers to understand the importance of positive, welcoming environments in sports, where misconduct like bullying or abuse is less likely to happen, and to know where to report abuse, should it occur.
 


Parent Toolkit

The U.S. Center for SafeSport provides a Parent Toolkit as well as a free online parent training titled, “Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport”.
