March Wraps Up With a Tournament-Stacked Weekend

Three tournaments took place in the last weekend of March: 2021 Dawg Pound Showdown, Hoopfest at Rocky Top, and the Turnstone Tournament

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO - Three separate tournaments brought together a total of 24 teams to wrap up March with some exciting action on the court.

Eighteen teams attended the 2021 Dawg Pound Showdown in Bellevue, Nebraska including nine varsity, six junior prep, and three adult division teams. Varsity teams Turnstone Flyers and RHI racers battled for best of two games at the Turnstone Tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Varsity teams BlazeSports America - Red and White, Charlotte Rollin' Hornets , and Cincinnati Dragons competed at the Hoopfest at Rocky Top tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee. 

Turnstone Tournament

RHI Racers and the Turnstone Flyers played two games.  The Racers won the first game (33-18) and the Flyers, despite playing both games with only five athletes, won the second game (33-26). 

 Standout players on the Turnstone roster include Cole Connelley and Zachariah Pfenning. Connelley lead in points in the first game with 12 points. Pfenning supported Connelley with six points, nine rebounds, one steal, and one block in the first game, and lead in points the second game with 21 points. 

Hannah Exline, Amelia Stotts, and Sebastian Thome stood out for the RHI Racers. Exline was the leading scorer for her team in both games with 13 points in the first and 9 points in the second. Stotts and Thome followed closely behind with 10 points in the first game and eight points in the second game respectively.

Hoopfest at Rocky Top Tournament 

Each of the four Varsity teams played three games in the first round of tournament play and then played one placement game.  After Pool play, Cincinnati was 3-0, Blazesports Hawks - Red was 2-1, Charlotte was 1-2 and Blazesports Hawks - White was 0-3. The Cincinnati Dragons won the tournament with an undefeated record (4-0).
