University of Texas-Arlington to Host 2021 Toyota Women's National Championship

The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) is delighted to announce that the 2021 Toyota NWBA Women's Wheelchair Basketball National Championship will be hosted by Dallas Lady Mavericks and the University of Texas-Arlington (UTA) Movin' Mavs and Lady Mavs. The 2021 Toyota NWBA Women's Wheelchair Basketball National Championship will be held on July 23-25 in Arlington, Texas. Competition will start on the morning of Friday, July 23 and conclude with the championship game on Sunday, July 25.

The event will be hosted on campus at the Maverick Activity Center and the Physical Education Building.  The Maverick Activity Center is a 190,000-square-foot facility that includes five indoor basketball courts. The University of Texas-Arlington has hosted a number of NWBA sanctioned events and various other events for adaptive sports at a local, regional and national levels. The University of Texas-Arlington last hosted the NWBA Women's National Tournament in 2018; and also hosted 2019 Toyota USA Men's Wheelchair Basketball Showdown. 

UTA has a strong commitment to making the National Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Tournament a success for the players, spectators, sponsors and the community. Darlene Hunter, the POC of the local organizing committee, describes the significance of hosting women's nationals, "The Lady Mavericks are so excited to partner with UTA  to host Women's Nationals. It is always such a powerful experience having all the women together in competition and mentoring. It will be a great send off for Team USA members who will be heading to Tokyo two weeks later," said Hunter. "Nationals is always a great showcase of women and junior girls talents. It is amazing to be back on the floor competing and we are happy that we can provide the opportunity of growth in the women's ball movement."

Every team competing is guaranteed to play four games. The tournament format will follow schedule requirements outlined in the Women's Division Guidelines for this event.

WHAT IS THE NWBA?

The National Wheelchair Basketball Association is the organization responsible for growing and developing wheelchair basketball in the United States, and the selection and training of the Paralympic and Parapan American Games teams, as well as major international competitions.

The NWBA is one of the oldest and largest Disabled Sports Organization in the world. It was founded in 1949 to provide individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to play and learn wheelchair basketball.

The NWBA is currently in 42 states as well as Canada and Puerto Rico, and has nearly 3,000 members and 225-plus teams.
