The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) is pleased to announce that Jim Glatch has agreed to take on the leadership role of the NWBA High Performance Committee. Glatch is the head coach of the men’s wheelchair basketball team at Edinboro University. In addition to the breadth and depth of experience that he brings from his role at Edinboro, Glatch also brings a variety of coaching experience with Team USA.

Glatch helped return the Men’s Senior National Team to the podium at the London 2012 Paralympic Games after an 8-year stretch without Paralympic hardware. In that same quadrennial, he lead Team USA to a bronze medal performance at the 2010 World Championships in Birmingham, England.

His Senior National Team experience was preceded by a successful campaign leading the U23 Men’s National Team. That team won a gold medal in 2009 at the U23 World Championship in Paris, France.

Tim Fox, NWBA President, feels Glatch's experience will help with the development of the high performance program.

“I am both excited and grateful for Jim’s willingness to take on this leadership role on behalf of the NWBA. He brings decades of expertise that will help us tap into our pipeline and prepare for continued success on the international level," said Fox. "Our National Teams and their performance on the world stage help drive awareness for our sport, and the success of these programs make us an attractive organization for sponsors and donors.”

Edinboro Director of Athletics, Dr. Katherine Robbins, said no one deserves the honor more than Glatch.

“Jim has given his all to the sport of wheelchair basketball. Whether it was training extra with Paralympians in the off-season, guiding Team USA, recruiting future professionals to Edinboro, or running a camp teaching young folks and veterans the game, he’s always been willing to give back. This honor is well deserved, and we wish Jim luck in helping Team USA bring home the gold.”

Glatch succeeds Stephanie Wheeler, NWBA Board Member, who resigned her role as chair due to expanded responsibilities at University of Illinois where she is head coach of the women’s wheelchair basketball team. Wheeler will continue her term as Board Member, and will continue as Chair of Coach Education Committee.

Fox is pleased Wheeler will continue her role as a Board Member.

“I am pleased that Stephanie will stay on as a Board Member and lend her expertise to developing and deploying the American Development Model (ADM) for The Association,"  said Fox.

Glatch, who was already a member of the High Performance Committee, will work with the National Office and NWBA Leadership to identify a backfill for his prior role on the HPC. The other members of the HPC are:

  • Dr. Andrea Woodson-Smith
  • Gail Gaeng
  • Eric Barber

Glatch is thankful for being given the role.

“I want to thank the NWBA for asking me to chair the high performance committee and Edinboro University for their incredible support of me and our wheelchair basketball program," said Glatch.

Please join the NWBA in welcoming Coach Glatch to this expanded role!
