COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – The Junior Division Executive Committee of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) has announced the January (early February) Rankings for Varsity and Prep; second rankings of the season!
January and early February were filled with Junior Division action and several teams returned to action and moved the rankings. BlazeSports Jr. Hawks remain unbeaten and atop the Varsity rankings, but the Charlotte Rollin’ Hornets incorporate new personnel and slip past Cincinnati Dragons into the number two spot for Varsity. Despite the Courage Kenny Rolling Timberwolves defeat of Kansas City, the Kings hold the season lead in their series and hold onto the fourth spot. Several strong performances by the Jr. Road Warriors move them up to the 12th spot while LWSRA and WASA start building their resume and join the top 16. The next few weeks should prove decisive as for Dallas Jr. Mavericks, Houston Hustle, and Nebraska Red Dawgs to make their case to move towards the upper echelons.
In Prep, the strong Kansas City Kings team remains unbeaten and atop the rankings. Charlotte Rollin' Hornets and WASA Jr. Bucks sit in the two and three spots while Roger C. Peace Rollin' Tigers scores a win against Charlotte that hints at the strength of their growing program.
The top 16 ranked teams for Varsity will earn an invite to play in the Toyota NWBA Varsity Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. Teams ranked 17-32 will receive an invite to participate in the Toyota NWBA Varsity Invitational Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. The top 16 ranked teams from Prep are initially offered an invitation to participate in the Toyota NWBA Prep Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. If a team does not accept their bid for postseason play, invitations will be sent to the next team, in order of ranking, until both tournaments are filled.
