COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. - The Adult Division Executive Committee for the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) is excited to announce the re-elections of Mark Gorman, Melanie Brionez and Jacob Couch.
Brionez’ involvement with the organization dates back over two decades, both as a player and a coach. She played for over 14 years in the Junior Division, Intercollegiate Division and Women's Divisions before going on to serve as head coach for the Adult Division I Albuquerque Kings and New Mexico 66ers. In 2024, Brionez was also the head coach for the Wolkpack Vets military team that won the NWBA Military Division National Championship. In addition, she was also an assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s U25 National Team that won gold at the 2019 U25 World Championships.
"I am so pleased to have been reelected as an At-Large Member of the Adult Division Committee. I look forward to continuing to represent the Adult Division and helping its members in any way that I can."
Mark Gorman has been involved with the NWBA for over three decades, both as a player and in a leadership position. Gorman played collegiately at Wright State before stints with the Chicago Bulls, Bordentown Elks and most notably the Pittsburgh Steelwheelers. In addition, he was a part of the U.S. Men’s National Team that competed at the Pan Am Games in 1990. He has served in a leadership capacity with the NWBA Adult Division for the last 10 years.
“Thank you to the membership for allowing me to be part of the group that serves this great organization. We all know that the NWBA has a deeper meaning than just basketball.”
Jacob Couch is a familiar face to those in the NWBA community college, particularly in the southeast region of the country. In addition to serving in a leadership role within the organization, Couch volunteers at Lakeshore Foundation, working the scorers table in addition to assisting Lakeshore Coaches with their wheelchair basketball teams.
