COLORADO, CO. – The Junior Division Executive Committee of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) has released the February (2025) power rankings for both the Varsity and Prep levels of play.

Rankings are developed monthly by the Junior Division Ranking Working Group, consisting of diverse team representatives and coaches from the Junior Division.

The top 16 ranked Varsity teams will be invited to play in the NWBA Varsity Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. Varsity teams ranked 17-36 may receive an invite to participate in the NWBA Varsity Invitational Wheelchair Basketball Tournament.

The top 16 ranked teams from Prep are offered an invitation to participate in the NWBA Prep Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. If a team does not accept their bid for postseason play, invitations will be sent to the next team, in order of ranking, until all tournaments are filled with teams.

The Road to Nationals: Junior Division Teams Gear Up for an Unforgettable Tournament

Just as Valentine’s Day signals the approach of spring, Junior Division teams are shifting their focus to what promises to be the most thrilling National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Tournament yet. Hosted once again by Sportable at the state-of-the-art Henrico Sports and Event Center outside Richmond, Virginia, this year’s event is bigger than ever. With 36 Varsity teams battling for supremacy in the National Invitational and National Championship Tournaments—and 20 Prep teams vying for their own national title—the expanded field sets the stage for fierce competition, renewed friendships, and unforgettable moments on the hardwood.

Months of dedication—honed through summer camps, grueling practices, and nationwide tournaments—will be put to the test. With regional qualifiers wrapping up and Conference Tournament season underway, this month’s Power Rankings reflect which teams are peaking at just the right time.

Varsity Division: A New Leader Emerges

In the Varsity rankings, the LWSRA Hawks soared into the top spot, riding the momentum of an impressive Midwest Conference Championship, where they secured back-to-back wins over the RHI Racers. This result pushes the Racers down to No. 2 as they regroup for the final stretch of the season. Meanwhile, two-time defending national champions, the Lakeshore Lakers, and the formidable Brooks Bullsharks sit at No. 3 and No. 4, both eager to make a championship run.

Prep Division: A Tight Race for the Top

On the Prep side, the Dallas Jr. Mavs continue to dominate with an undefeated record, but the battle for seeding is heating up. The BlazeSports Hawks and NY Rolling Fury have climbed into the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, while the Mary Free Bed Racers made a statement by winning both the Turnstone and Whitewater tournaments, surging from ninth all the way to No. 5.

With intensity building and the biggest stage just around the corner, every team is looking for that final edge. The Road to Richmond promises to be full of surprises, but one thing is certain: this year’s tournament will be one for the ages.
