National Wheelchair Basketball Association to Host Classification Course at 2025 Adult Division National Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. - The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) is proud to announce a Classification Course to be held during the 2025 NWBA Adult Division National Championships. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to deepen their involvement in wheelchair basketball and become official classifiers. 


Course Details

Date: Weekend of the 2025 NWBA Adult Division National Championships 

Classwork

  • Thursday, April 10 (9:00am – 5:00pm)

Field Study

  • Friday, April 11 (9:00am – 5:00pm)
  • Saturday, April 12 (9:00am – 1:00pm) 

Registration Fee: $100 (includes class materials, training, lunches, and a classifier polo) 

Location: Henrico Sports & Events Center 


Classification is the cornerstone of wheelchair basketball, ensuring fair and competitive play for athletes with disabilities worldwide. Following the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) classification system, this course will provide participants with a deep understanding of the principles and procedures that govern player classification, fostering inclusivity and integrity in the sport. 

Individuals who complete the course will gain valuable insights into functional classification, a system that promotes fairness and credibility in competition by categorizing players based on their abilities. Classification is not only vital to the sport of wheelchair basketball but also plays a key role in the Paralympic Movement, ensuring meaningful and high-performance competition for athletes with disabilities across the globe. 

Participants will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging during the clinic. However, limited financial support may be available for those in need. Payment information will be provided upon receipt of the completed registration form.
