COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. - The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) is proud to announce that Paralympians Christina Schwab and Nate Hinze have been elected as Athlete Representatives to the NWBA Board of Directors.

In accordance with the NWBA and United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Bylaws, Schwab and Hinze will each serve a four-year term from 2025 through 2029.

Schwab and Hinze will join three of their teammates currently serving as Athlete Directors, Rose Hollermann, Baily Moody and Morgan Wood to fulfill the required 33.3% athlete representation on the NWBA Board of Directors.

The Athlete Representative position serves as a critical channel for athlete engagement within the NWBA. These representatives advocate for athlete rights, share feedback from the athlete community, and work to build meaningful relationships across all levels of the organization. Their leadership also supports the development of pathways that empower athletes and ensure their voices are heard in shaping the future of the sport.

Christina Schwab is a three-time Paralympic gold medalist and one of the most accomplished figures in wheelchair basketball. A member of the U.S. Women’s National Team that won gold in 2004, 2008, and 2016, Schwab will be inducted into the 2025 U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee Hall of Fame as part of the historic 2004 team.

A member of the NWBA Hall of Fame Class of 2019, Schwab most recently served as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team, leading the squad to a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games and gold at the 2023 Parapan American Games. In addition, she led the U.S. Women’s National Team to a bronze finish at the 2022 IWBF World Championship. Schwab was also an assistant coach for the gold medal-winning U.S. Men’s Team at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Nate Hinze is a four-time Paralympian and three-time Paralympic gold medalist, most recently helping Team USA capture gold at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. He also played a key role in Team USA’s gold medal victories at the Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016 Games, as the team became the first men’s squad to win three consecutive Paralympic gold medals. Hinze earned a bronze medal at the London 2012 Paralympics as well. In addition to his Paralympic success, he helped the U.S. Men’s National Team secure gold at the 2011 and 2015 Parapan American Games, and silver at the 2014 and 2018 World Championships.
