COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. – The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) and the High Performance Committee are excited to announce the staff that will support the 2026 Women’s U.S.A. Wheelchair Basketball Team.

Three-time Paralympian Jeremy “Opie” Lade will continue serving as head coach.

Joining Lade on the sidelines are assistant coaches Ryan Hynes (Germantown, Wisconsin) and Tracy Chynoweth (Cottage Grove, Wisconsin). Also supporting the team are athletic trainer Alex Curry (Denver, Colorado) and team leader Kelly Fischbach (Vermillion, South Dakota).

The entire staff returns after guiding the U.S. Women’s National Team to gold at the 2025 IWBF Americas Cup in Bogotá, Colombia.

Jeremy “Opie” Lade – 2026 Women’s National Team Staff - Head Coach

Lade brings a wealth of competitive and coaching experience to the program. As a player, he helped Team USA capture a bronze medal at the 2012 London Paralympic Games and earned additional international accolades, including gold at the 2002 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships and silver in 2006.

In his first tenure as a national team head coach, Lade guided the U.S. Women’s Team to gold at the 2025 IWBF Americas Cup. His high-performance coaching résumé also includes serving as an assistant coach for the 2017 IWBF Men’s U23 World Championship Team.

Lade’s success extends deeply into the NWBA. At UW-Whitewater, he led the Warhawks to multiple national championships, earning MVP honors at both the 2002 NWBA Division II Championship and the 2003 Intercollegiate Division Men’s National Championship. In 2005, he and UW-Whitewater claimed another national title. Most recently, he helped the WASA Marquette Eagles capture the 2025 NWBA Adult Division I National Championship.

From 2005 to 2008, Lade led the Milwaukee Wizards, steering the team to the 2007 NWBA Junior Division National Championship. He went on to serve as head coach of the UW-Whitewater men’s program from 2008 to 2018, guiding the Warhawks to six national titles during his decade at the helm.

Beyond coaching, Lade became a recognized voice in the sport, serving as a color analyst for wheelchair basketball at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games on NBC and was recently announced as an inductee for the NWBA Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

Ryan Hynes – 2026 Women’s National Team Staff - Assistant Coach

Hynes has served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team since 2022, playing an instrumental role in Team USA’s success on the international stage. In addition to his work with the senior national team, Hynes led the U.S. Women’s U25 Team to a gold medal at the 2023 IWBF Women’s U25 World Championship as head coach.

At the collegiate level, Hynes has been the head coach at the University of Alabama for the past seven seasons, steering the Tide to their fifth consecutive NWBA Intercollegiate National Championship in 2025. A two-time Intercollegiate Division All-American, he has been part of the Alabama wheelchair basketball program since 2005—first as a player, contributing to the program’s first men’s national championship in 2013, and later as a coach. Over his career, Hynes has been a part of eight NWBA National Championships with the Crimson Tide as both a player and coach.

As a Graduate Assistant under NWBA Hall of Fame Coach Dan Byrnes, he was introduced to wheelchair basketball. After graduating in 1998, he began a decade-long coaching tenure at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, leading the program to five national championships (1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007) and establishing it as an NWBA powerhouse.

His success led to roles with Team USA, serving as an assistant coach for the USA Women’s National Team (2000-2002, 2025), USA Junior National Team (2001, 2005), and USA Men’s National Team (2007-2008). His international coaching career culminated at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics after leading teams to multiple medals, including gold at the 2005 Junior World Championships.

In recognition of his impact on the sport, Chynoweth was inducted into the NWBA Intercollegiate Division Hall of Fame in 2020.
