COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. – The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Board of Directors has approved, effective immediately, the NWBA Classification Policies and Procedures.

While these Policies & Procedures do not alter current classification practices, they officially document the processes that have guided our sport for years. This step provides our membership with greater transparency, stronger organizational guidance, and a more consistent framework for competition.

By formalizing these policies, the NWBA continues to elevate its organizational practices and ensure alignment with U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF). This alignment helps maintain the integrity of competition and supports the long-term growth of wheelchair basketball nationwide.

The Classification Policies and Procedures currently include some language that also appears in the existing NWBA Policies & Procedures. The NWBA Policies & Procedures will be updated as soon as possible to remove this redundancy and maintain consistency across governance documents.
