NWBA Announces 2nd Annual 3x3 Open Division Tournament at 2026 Adult Nationals

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. – The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) is excited to announce the return of its 3x3 Open Division Tournament, which will take place during the 2026 Adult National Championships. Building on the success of its debut, the tournament will be held on Thursday, March 26, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. CT at the West Monroe Sports & Events in West Monroe, LA.

Introduced last year as a fast-paced addition to the Adult Nationals, the 3x3 Open Division Tournament continues to bring a high-energy, condensed format that highlights skill, speed, and creativity. Open to Junior, Adult, and Intercollegiate athletes, the event offers a unique competitive opportunity while enhancing the overall championship experience for athletes and fans alike.

The NWBA invites eligible athletes to register and participate in this returning event. Whether competing on the court or cheering from the stands, the NWBA 3x3 Open Division Tournament promises exciting action, spirited competition, and an electric atmosphere during Adult Nationals.

Registration Information

Team Registration:

  • Only one registration per team is needed.
  • Players from different teams are welcome to join.
  • Registration is open to all registered athletes who are NWBA members.
  • Ensure that players bring a light colored and a dark colored jersey to event.
  • Intercollegiate Division athletes ARE eligible. If you are going to attend adult nationals, bring your chair and make a team!

Team Composition & Fees:

  • Each team must have 3 players, with a maximum of 4 players allowed.
  • The fee is $160 per team, and only the first 16 teams will be accepted.

Tournament Format:

  • Teams are guaranteed at least 4 ten-minute games.
  • A mandatory pre-tournament meeting will be held with team representatives to finalize tournament formatting and logistics. Further details regarding this meeting will be shared closer to the event.

Basic Playing Rules (Per IWBF Rules & Guidelines)

  • Team Composition: Three players on the court, one substitute available.
  • Classification Points: Teams must adhere to an 8.5-point combined classification rule, with female players receiving a one-point reduction.
  • Game Play: Games consist of a single 10-minute period with a 12-second shot clock.
  • Scoring: Inside-the-arc field goals = 1 point, outside-the-arc field goals = 2 points, free throws = 1 point.
  • Overtime: The first team to score 2 points in overtime wins.
  • Winning Conditions: The first team to reach 21 points or the team leading at the end of 10 minutes wins.
