Olivia was a pioneer of the women’s sport, particularly in California where she played for the Southern California Sunrise. After earning the MVP award at the 1979 NWWBT when her team placed second, she led her team to first place in 1980 and 1981 as well as 1984 and 1985. An effective outside shooter, she frequently earned first-team all-tournament honors, specifically in 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1988 and 1989. Her excellent play earned selection to the U.S. team in 1980, 1982 and 1984. She was an outstanding leader both off and on the court where she could often be heard barking instructions to teammates in both English and Spanish.

Hall-of-Famer Susan Hagel, a frequent opponent, has stated that, on U.S. teams, Olivia “was a teammate that I could depend on to give her best during the competition, on and off the court. For the Sunrise, everyone knew that she was the true co- coach to Les Hayes during all of their games. I also want to acknowledge her continued dedication to the game for the past 30 years by continuing to serve as the Conference Commissioner of the Pacific Coast conference.”

Among her many outstanding achievements,

— Reyes earned the MVP award at the 5th NWWBT tournament in 1979 where California lost in the final to the Minnesota Rolling Gophers, 34-29, Reyes had led the Sunrise to easy victories over Illinois (29-13) and the Atlanta Wheelies (35-4).

— In 1981, she was honored by the NWBA with a selection to the U.S. team that toured Japan to play a series of six matches, matches in which the U.S. women went undefeated.

— In 1984, she led the Sunrise to a championship when she and her teammates defeated Minnesota Twin Cities Wheels of Fortune 29-24 in the final.

— In 1985, Olivia was selected to the all-national tournament first team, when she led the California Sunrise to a 5 and 0 record in the 11th NWBT played in San Diego. She and her teammates defeated Illinois in the final, 39-34.

— In 1989 and 1992 she won the Timothy Vandermeiden Sportsmanship award, an honor that was bestowed upon her by her peers, a clear sign of respect.
