Team History: University of Illinois Fighting Illini

Sports Biography:

Brad began his Wheelchair Basketball Career with the High Points Warriors of the Carolina’s Conference in 1972. He played on the Carolina Tar Wheels, Champaign-Urbana Black Knights, Springfield Spoke Jockeys and the Arkansas Rolling Razorbacks. His playing career included appearances in two Final 4 Tournaments (1974 Carolina Tar Wheels and 1986 Springfield Spoke Jockeys). He was selected to the NWBT All Tournament Team four times. He was also selected to the 1980 US Paralympic Team and the 1981 Men’s Team to The Netherlands.

In addition to his playing, Brad has coached ‘a few’ National Championship Teams. They include:
University of Illinois Men’s Basketball Teams that won the National Intercollegiate Championship in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1995
University of Illinois Women’s Basketball Teams that won the National Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Championship in 1983, 1986, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994.

He has also coached several International teams representing the USA:
1981-Assistant Coach USA Women’s Pan Am Games(Gold Medal)
1984-Assistant Coach USA Women’s Paralympic Team
1988-Head Coach USA Women’s Paralympic Team (Gold Medal)
1993-Head Coach USA Men’s Developmental Team (Gold Medal)
1994-Head Coach USA Men’s Team-Tournament of the Americas- (Gold Medal)
1994-Head Coach USA Men’s Gold Cup Team (Gold Medal)
1996-Head Coach USA Men’s Paralympic Team (Bronze Medal)

Awarded Paralyzed Veterans ‘Jack Gerhardt Award’ in 1994 and has written various articles on Rehabilitation and Sports for the Disabled. Service to the NWBA – Past President-NWBA Intercollegiate Division, Member of NWBA Strategic Planning Committee, Commissioner NWBA Division II
