Team History: Long Beach Flying Wheels

Sports Biography:

Head Coach of Long Beach Flying Wheels 1959-1967. Led the Flying Wheels to Pacific Coast Conference Championships 1960-1964 / 2nd place 1959. Coached Flying Wheels to 5 consecutive National Championships (1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964). Head Coach U.S. Paralympic Team (1964-Tokyo). Holds NWBT Coaching record (22 – 4).

NonSports Biography:

Graduated from Hardin High School in Illinois where he was winner of eight varsity letters and named athlete of the year during his senior year. Upon graduation, he entered the Navy and served aboard a Destroyer for three years in Korean waters during that conflict. He was a member of the ship’s basketball team gaining the Far East “Forces Afloat Championship”. Upon discharge, he was employed by the City of Lakewood, CA Recreation Department as Supervisor of Sports and Aquatics. After 14 years he left to become the first ever Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Los Alamitos, CA.
