NWBA Director of Officials - Mike Woodard

The NWBA is pleased to announce that Mike Woodard has been selected to serve in a new volunteer position – NWBA Director of Officials. As the NWBA Director of Officials, Mike will serve a vital role in the recruitment, development and training of new officials, communication between the NWBA Officials Association (NWBOA) and the NWBA National Office, creation and tracking of evaluation of Officials, and scheduling and oversight of Officials for the NWBA National Championships Tournament.

Mike has a long and successful history within the NWBA. He has been involved in wheelchair basketball since his arrival in Lexington, KY, in 1987 where he served as a graduate assistant for NWBA Commissioner Stan Labanowich and coached the University of Kentucky Wheelkats. Mike was ahead of his time as he recruited both an Aussie and a Brit to play on the team leading them to their first top 25 ranking.

In his nearly 30 years with the NWBA, Mike has held positions as a coach, official, and administrator including Paralympic Trails Coaching Staff, PVA Camp Coaching Staff, Assistant NWBA Commissioner, Founding Member of the NWBA Officials Association, and has worked more than 30 Final Four and Championship Games across all of the NWBA Divisions.

Woodard on his new role within the NWBA – “It is a great honor to be working with the NWBA in this capacity. I am very excited for this opportunity. I believe this is a partnership that can have very favorable results for the NWBA, the NWBOA and create a level of professionalism and expertise that will only enhance the game.“

The NWBA is very pleased that Mike has accepted this new role within the NWBA. Mike has been an asset to the NWBA for over a quarter century in nearly every capacity imaginable and has always endeavored to make the NWBA the best it can be. His experiences make him the ideal person to serve as the NWBA Director of Officials and this marks another step towards the NWBA reaching its ultimate potential and serving its members to level they deserve.
