COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – The NWBA Junior Division announced its 2016-17 January Rankings for Varsity and Prep levels of play. The Dallas Jr. Mavericks - Blue continue to secure the No. 1 slot for Varsity. The Dallas Jr. Mavs – Blue remain undefeated with a 21-0 record. Their record includes wins over eight of the top 10 ranked teams in Varsity and a total of 11 wins versus these teams. The Dallas Jr. Mavs – Blue have scored 1167 points in total this season, averaging over 55 points per game.
The Atlanta BlazeSports Jr. Wheelchair Hawks retain their No. 2 spot in the inaugural rankings this season with a record of 10-1. The Jr. Wheelchair Hawks, have won games against four of the other top 10 ranked Varsity teams.
After a good showing at the UW-Whitewater Junior Regional Tournament, the Mary Free Bed Jr. Pacers – Varsity A (13-4) jumped two spots to No. 3 in Varsity. The Jr. Pacers – Varsity A had big victories at Whitewater over the WASA Jr. Bucks (No. 10), Utah Rush – Varsity (No. 9), and the Minnesota Jr. Rolling Timberwolves (No. 5).
TIRR Memorial Hermann Jr. Hotwheels (12-2) continue to hold the No. 4 spot and the Minnesota Jr. Rolling Timberwolves (13-4) finish out the top five ranked teams in Varsity.
The top 16 ranked teams from Varsity will earn an invite to play in the National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (NJWBT) at the 2017 National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (NWBT) presented by ABC medical in Louisville, Kentucky, March 30-April 2. Teams ranked 17-32 will receive an invite to participate in the National Junior Invitational Tournament at the 2017 NWBT. If a team does not accept their bid for post season play, invitations will be sent to the next team, in order of ranking, until both tournaments are filled (Section 5.02 of NWBA Junior Division Guidelines).
The Charlotte Jr. Hornets Prep - Purple (5-0) remain the number one ranked team for the Prep level of play. The Jr. Hornets Prep – Purple are defensively sound holding opposing teams to 13 points per game. The Jr. Hornets Prep – Purple prepare for their next competition, which is the 2017 Carolina Winter Classic on February 11-12 in Durham, NC.
The WASA Bucks – Prep jump one spot to No. 2 ranked team for Prep with a 13-1 record. The WASA Bucks – Prep are riding a nine game win streak and they are averaging more than 28 points a game on offense.
The top 16 ranked teams from Prep are initially offered an invitation to participant in the National Prep Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (NPWBT) at the 2017 NWBT. After confirming the intent to attend of the top 16 teams an invitation is sent to the remaining teams to fill all16 slots for the NPWBT.
