Colorado Springs, Colorado – Both of the men’s and women’s teams for the University of Texas at Arlington earned the No. 1 seed for the NWBA National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament that will be played at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, starting on Thursday and concluding with the championships on Saturday.
The UTA Women’s team are the defending champions, and returns with two gold-medal winning Paralympians Rose Hollermann of Elysian, Minnesota, and Abigail Dunkin of New Braunfels, Texas. The women will face University of Illinois, the No. 4 seed, at 2 p.m. Central to open the semi-finals.
The University of Alabama women’s team is the No. 2 ranked team, and will face off with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the No. 3 seed, in the other semi-final game on Thursday at 4 p.m.
On the men’s side, 2017 U.S. Men’s U23 Team member Fabian Romo of Houston, Texas, leads the UTA squad, with support from Ian Pierson of New Braunfels, Texas. They will face the winner of the No. 9 University of Nebraska-Omaha vs. No. 8 Auburn University play-in game. The UTA men will close out the first day of competition on Thursday at 8 p.m.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the defending men’s champions, are the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and will square off with Southwest Minnesota State University at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s has won 10 of the last 14 National Titles.

No. 7 – Southwest Minnesota State University
