NWBA’S Celebrates Rio 2016 Paralympic Game Gold Medalists in their Victory Tour in Seattle, WA

NWBA's Victory Tour comes to Seattle September 30th.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – In celebration of 26 years of adaptive sports, the Seattle Adaptive Sports Program will host the NWBA’s Victory Tour gala Saturday, September 30, starting at 6:00 p.m., at 415 Westlake Ave N Seattle, WA.

The Victory Tour celebrates the undefeated U.S. Men’s and Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Gold Medalists of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. This is the first time that both the men’s and women’s team won gold medals since the Seoul 1988 Paralympics.

The gala includes: a silent auction, guest speakers, cash bar, appetizers and a buffet dinner catered by The Upper Crust. Speakers featured at the event include Co-founder of the Seattle Adaptive Sports Program Jim Martinson and Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medalists Desiree Miller of Monroe, Washington, and Megan Blunk of Gig Harbor, Washington. Both Miller and Blunk started their adaptive sports careers with the Seattle Adaptive Sports program.

The event is open to current members, alumni, friends, and supporters of the Seattle Adaptive Sports Program, NWBA, and Paralympians. Tickets are $80 per person or $1,000 for a table of eight. Tickets can be purchased at www.seattleadaptivesports.com/annual-gala.html or (206) 963-0916.

Blunk, 28, began playing adaptive sports at age 19 after a motorcycle accident. Since then, Blunk has competed internationally for the Paralympic Canoe Team and the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. Over her athletic career, Blunk won two silver medals for the Paralympic Canoe Team in 2013, a gold medal at the 2015 Parapan American Games and a gold medal at the Rio 2016 Paraolympic Games for wheelchair basketball.

Miller, 30, started playing wheelchair basketball for the Junior Seattle Sonics through the Seattle Adaptive Sports program when she was 17. She then continued to play at the collegiate level at the University of Alabama. Over the years, Miller has won gold melds at the Parapan Am Games, the IWBF World Championship, the U25 World Championship, and the Rio 2016 Paraolympic Games.

Proceeds from this event support the continuation of programs and opportunities the NWBA and the Seattle Adaptive Sports Programs. The funds acquired from this event will aid in equipment costs, competitions, scholarships and storage rentals.

This event is sponsored by T-Mobile, the Seattle Adaptive Sports Program and the NWBA. Additional donations or gifts for the silent auction are appreciated.

The Seattle Adaptive Sports is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of the wellbeing of individuals with disabilities. They offer opportunities to participate and compete in various athletic and recreational activities including: basketball, soccer, hockey, tennis, and track and field.
