This week November 6-12, NWBA teams and organizations host several NWBA sanctioned events across the country. All events are open to the public.

2nd Annual Tucson Veterans Weekend Wheelchair Basketball Tournament

In honor of Veterans Day’s, the Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports (SAAS) of Tucson, Arizona is hosting a variety of events throughout the weekend in celebration. To kick-off the weekend Friday, November 10, SAAS partnered with the Tucson Roadrunners of Tucson, Arizona for a fun-filled night of sled hockey at the Tucson Arena. The Tucson Roadrunners will face the Bakersfield Condors at 7:05 p.m. During the first intermission, SAAS will provide an on-ice demonstration.

Saturday through Sunday, November 11-12, SAAS will host their 2nd Annual Tucson Veterans Weekend Wheelchair Basketball Tournament and Adaptive Sports Expo featuring special guests at the Pascua Yaqui Wellness Center, 5305 Calle Torim, Tucson, AZ. Adult Division II, III and Women's teams will compete in this two-day tournament. This is an NWBA Classification Event and a NWBA Classifier Panel will also be present to provide functional classifications to athletes competing.

Participating teams include Adult Division III teams: Tucson Lobos of Tucson, Arizona; the Phoenix Banner Suns of Phoenix, Arizona; and the El Paso TX Air Wheelers of Sunland Park, New Mexico. The Adult Division II teams attending include: the University of Arizona of Tucson, Arizona; the Las Vegas Yuccas of Las Vegas, Nevada; and the NMCSD Wolfpack of San Diego, California. The newly formed Arizona Storm of Tucson, Arizona of the Women’s Division will also be participating in this event.

The adaptive sports expo is Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. featuring adaptive cycling, wheelchair tennis and a variety of exhibitors. 

The Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports (SAAS) is a nonprofit 501C3 organization. Their mission is to support the community through promotion and provision of fitness, recreation and competitive sports opportunities for persons with disabilities.

NWBA’s Women’s Development Camp (Nov.9-13)

The NWBA is hosting the 2017 NWBA Women’s Development Camp November 9 -13 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The NWBA Women’s Development Camp is an opportunity for athletes to gain exposure to the U.S. National Team’s coaching team. The camp is led by U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Trooper Johnson of San Lorenso, California. Coach Johnson is assisted at the camp by assistant coaches Amy Spangler of Madison, Wisconsin. Athletes will experience similar training and instruction similar to that of the U.S. National Team’s athletes.

 

9th Annual Second City Showdown (Nov. 11-12)

The Chicago Parks District will host the 9th Annual Second City Showdown at Broadway Armory Park, 5917 N. Broadway St, Chicago, IL.

Twelve teams from the Intercollegiate Men, Intercollegiate Women, Adult Division I, Adult Division II and Adult Division III will compete in this tournament.

Competing teams include: the Mary Free Bed Pacers of Grand Rapids, Michigan; the MedStar NRH Punishers of Washington, D.C.; the RIC Hornets of Chicago, Illinois; the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Men’s and Women’s of Champaign, Illinois; the LA Hotwheels of Cudahy, California; the LWSRA Hawks of New Lenox, Illinois; the Rockford Chariots of Roscoe, Illinois; the Wisconsin Thunder of Whitewater, Wisconsin; the Chicago Skyhawks of Chicago, Illinois; the WASA Bucks - DIII of Brookfield, Wisconsin; and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Women of Whitewater, Wisconsin.

There are three different championships: the Showdown Division, the Midway Division, and the Da’ Blues Division.

An All-Tournament Team, MVP, and sportsmanship awards are provided for each division. The 2017 recipient of the Larry Labiak Leadership Award is also provided.

Kings Tournament (Nov. 11-12)

The Nassau Kings Inc. is hosting the Kings Tournament at the Yes We Can Community Center, 141 Garden Street, Westbury, New York.

This Division II tournament consists of the Nassau Kings of Elmont, New York; the Delaware Destroyers of Wilmington, Delaware; the Bulova Nets of Tinton Falls, New Jersey; the Magee Spokesmen of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the Brockton Celtics of Raynham, Massachusetts, and the Sportable Rim Riders of Richmond, Virginia.

Awards for first, second, and third place teams will be provided. Individual awards will be provided for MVP and Sportsmanship.

San Diego Silverbacks Tournament (Nov. 11)

The San Diego Silverbacks host their Silverbacks DII Invitational Saturday, November 11 at 9:00 a.m. at the Municipal Gymnasium, 2111 Pan American Plaza, San Diego, California.

The Boyle Heights Kodiaks of Huntington Park, California; the Los Angeles Clippers Chairmen of Los Angeles, California; the PossAbilities Rolling Bears Lake Elsinore, CA; the Rancho Renegades of Downey, California; the Sacramento Royals of Sacramento, California; and San Diego Silverbacks of San Diego, California are playing in this tournament. The top three teams are award prizes.

 

UTA Jim Hayes Invitational (Nov. 10-12)

In honor of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Homecoming Weekend the Movin' Mavs Adapted Sports is hosting the UTA Jim Hayes Invitational at the Maverick Activities Center and Physical Education Building, 500 Nedderman Dr, Arlington, Texas. The Maverick Activities Center will host the games for men and the UTA Physcial Education Building will host the women’s games.

Divisions of Play include the Intercollegiate Men, Intercollegiate Women, Women's Division, Division I, and Veterans.

The University of Alabama Men’s and Women’s Team of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; the University of Wisconsin (UW)-Whitewater Men’s Team of Whitewater, Wisconsin; the University of Texas Arlington (UTA) Movin’ Mavs Men’s Team of Arlington, Texas; the UTA Lady Movin’ Mavs of Arlington, Texas; the Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks of Arlington, Texas; the Lady Mavericks of Arlington, Texas; TIRR Memorial Hermann Houston Hotwheels Division I.

CT Day Tournament – NA

The Connecticut Spokebenders of Meriden, Connecticut host their first official tournament of the season this weekend. The CT Tournament is held at 126 Sports & Fitness Center 47 Upson St. Bristol, Connecticut.

This Division III tournament is between the Connecticut Spokebenders of Meriden, Connecticut; the Axis Knights of New York, New York; the Brooklyn Nets of Brooklyn, New York; and the New England Blazers of Saugus, Massachusetts.

 

Bill and Julie Duncan Memorial Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (Nov. 11-12)

The San Jose State School of Kinesiology of the San Jose State University of San Jose, California is hosting the Bill and Julie Duncan Memorial Wheelchair Basketball Tournament this weekend at the Spartan Complex Gym, 1 Washington Square, San Jose, California.

This Division I tournament includes the Utah Wheelin’ Jazz of Lehi, Utah; the Sacramento Rollin’ Kings of Davis, California; the Seattle Sonics of Seattle, Washington; and the Golden State Road Warriors of Milpitas, California.

This Round-Robin tournament guarantees at least four games per team.

RHI Sports Naptown Classic (Nov. 11)

The RHI Jr. Racers of Indianapolis, Indiana host the RHI Sports Naptwon Classic November 11 at Hamilton Southeastern High School, 13910 East 126th Street Fishers, Indiana.

Teams competing include: the RHI Jr. Racers Prep, Varsity, and Varsity B teams of Indianapolis, Indiana; the Cincinnati Dragons Junior Prep and Varsity team of Covington, Kentucky; the Turnstone-Flyers Junior (Prep) and Turnstone Flyers (Varsity) teams of Fort Wayne, Indiana;  and the Miami Valley Jr. Raptors of Beavercreek, Ohio. These teams will compete in the Prep and Varsity Divisions.
