#3 Kings Win a Historic 114-110 3OT

U.S. Women’s Training Camp

The NWBA hosted the U.S. Women’s National Team Selection Camp from February 5-8, 2018 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Throughout the camp, 17 of our nation’s top wheelchair basketball players competed in scrimmages and ran a multitude of drills to earn a spot on the 2018 U.S. Women’s team. The final roster of 12 for the U.S. Women’s World Championship team was announced on Wednesday, February 7.

University of Illinois – Men Tournament (Feb. 9-10)

The University of Illinois hosted the University of Illinois – Men Tournament from February 9-10, 2018. The tournament was held at the Campus Recreation Activities and Recreation Center, located at 201 E. Peabody Dr., Champaign, IL.

In the Intercollegiate Men’s Division pool of the tournament, the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater of Whitewater, WI were undefeated and finished with a record of 4-0. Edinboro University of Edinboro, PA and Southwest Minnesota State University of Marshall, MN both finished with the second-best record of 3-1.

In the Intercollegiate Women’s Division pool of the tournament, the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater of Whitewater, WI won their pool with a record of 3-1. The University of Illinois – Women of Champaign, IL ended the tournament with the second best record of 2-1.

WFFS Brad Rich 2nd Annual Invitational Tournament (Feb. 9-11)

The Warrior Foundation Freedom Station hosted the WFFS Brad Rich 2nd Annual Invitational Tournament from February 9-11, 2018. The tournament was held at the Gym Balboa, located at 2111 Pan American Plaza, San Diego, California and the San Diego City College, located at 1313 Park Blvd, San Diego, California.

The highlight of the tournament, and quite possibly the entire year, came from a triple-overtime thriller between the #3 ranked Sacramento Rolling Kings of Sacramento, CA and the #1 ranked Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks of Dallas, TX. After six periods of play, the Sacramento Rolling Kings were able to take the victory with a final score of 114-110.

With a total of 214 points scored, this is possibly the most points ever scored in an NWBA sanctioned wheelchair basketball game. Both teams will attend the National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament and all signs point to these two teams playing an equally competitive game. If you missed history the first time, give yourself a chance to see it again. Long story short, buy your tickets now.

Tournament of Champions (Feb. 10-11)

The Tournament of Champions was cancelled due to weather conditions and will be rescheduled for March 17-18.

Enter the Dragon Tournament (Feb. 10-11)

The Greater Cincinnati Adapted Sports Club hosted the Enter the Dragon Tournament from February 10-11, 2018. The tournament was held at the Hamersville Elementary & Middle School, located at 1950 St. Rt. 125, Hamersville, OH. This was a round robin tournament where each team played every team in their division at least once.

In the Junior Prep Division game that took place during the tournament, the RHI Racers of Indianapolis, IN defeated the Cincinnati Dragons – Prep of Covington, KY 23-8.

In the Junior Varsity Division pool of the tournament, Cincinnati Dragons – Varsity of Covington, KY dominated in both of their games, winning by an average margin of 43.5 points. The Miami Valley Raptors of Xenia, OH finished second in their pool with a record of 1-1.

Harrisonburg Cardinals Games (Feb. 10-11)

Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation hosted three games from February 10-11, 2018. The games took place at the Lucy Simms Continuing Education Center, located at 620 Simms Ave., Suite 205, Harrisonburg, VA.

The Sportable Rim Riders of Richmond, VA won both games that they played against the Harrisonburg Cardinals of Orange, VA. The Cardinals were able to defeat the Virginia Sunwheelers of Virginia Beach, VA in the one game they played against each other over the weekend.
