48 Adult Division Teams Set for NWBT

The Adult Division Executive Committee used the rankings from March to distribute invitations to the 2018 National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament presented by ABC Medical, set for Louisville, Kentucky, April 12-15.

The top 16 ranked teams in each division of play received an invite to the 2018 NWBT and all top 16 teams from Division I, Division II and Division III accepted their invite to attend the 2018 NWBT. To see the full list of teams that will attend the NWBT, click here.

  

37th Annual Carousel House Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (Mar. 2-4)

The Carousel House Recreation Center hosted the 37th Annual Carousel House Wheelchair Basketball Tournament from March 2-4, 2018. The tournament took place at the Carousel House, located at 4300 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the High School of the Future, located at 4021 Parkside Ave, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In the Adult Division III pool of the tournament, the Connecticut Spokebenders of Meriden, CT finished in first place after defeating the New England Blazers of Saugus, MA in  an extremely close championship game, 36-35. The WC Brooklyn Nets of Brooklyn, NY finished third place in their pool.

In the Adult Division II pool of the tournament, the NMSCD Wolfpack of San Diego, CA won the championship game against the Magee Spokesmen of Philadelphia, PA with a final score of 61-47. The Wolfpack's most impressive win came against the first ranked Adult Division II team for the month of February, the Nassau Kings of Elmont, NY, 61-44 in the playoffs. The Kings ended the tournament in third place in their pool. 

In the Adult Division I pool of the tournament, the New York Rollin’ Knicks of Floral Park, NY won the tournament for the fourth year in a row, defeating the MedStar NRH Punishers of Washington D.C. with a score of 69-40 in the championship game.

2018 National Wheelcats Invitational (Mar. 3-4)

The National Wheelcats hosted the 2018 National Wheelcats Invitational from March 3-4, 2018. The tournament took place at the Vanderbilt University Recreation and Wellness Center, located at 2700 Childrens Way, Nashville, TN.

The Fort Lauderdale Sharks of Fort Lauderdale, FL won the tournament, defeating the Charlotte Rollin’ Hornets – A of Cornelius, NC in the championship game, 61-55. The championship victory gave the Sharks a perfect 5-0 record. The Wisconsin Thunder of Whitewater, WI finished the tournament in third place.

STRAPS Junior Wheelchair Basketball Conference Championships (Mar. 3-4)

The Morgan's Wonderland - STRAPS hosted the STRAPS Junior Wheelchair Basketball Conference Championships from March 3-4, 2018. The tournament took place at Morgan's Wonderland, located at 5223 David Edwards Dr. San Antonio, TX.

This was a double-elimination bracket tournament. The venue, Morgan’s Wonderland, is the first and only ultra-accessibly theme park in the world.

In the Junior Prep Division, the OKC Wheels of Thunder – Prep of Oklahoma City, OK won their pool finishing 3-0. The Dallas Junior Wheelchair Mavericks – Prep of Dallas, TX placed second and the STRAPS STARS of San Antonio rounded out the standings in third place.

In the Junior Varsity pool of the tournament, the TIRR Memorial Hermann Junior Hotwheels of Houston, TX had a very strong tournament, winning all three of their games by an average margin of 29.6 points per game. The Tulsa Jammers of Tulsa, OK finished in second place with a record of 2-2 and the Dallas Junior Wheelchair Basketball Mavericks – Blue of Dallas, TX rounded out the top three in the Junior Varsity pool.

2018 Junior SEC Championships (Mar. 3-4)

The Lakeshore Foundation hosted the 2018 Junior SEC Championships from March 3-4, 2018. The tournament took place at the Lakeshore Foundation, located at 4000 Ridgeway Dr., Birmingham, AL.

Throughout the two-day tournament, spectators were able to watch the top Junior Prep and Junior Varsity Division teams in the nation. In the Junior Prep Division pool, the Charlotte Rollin’ Hornets - Purple of Matthews, NC went undefeated and won the championship game against the Lakeshore Sharks of Birmingham, AL with a final score of 38-20. The BlazeSports Jr. Hawks - Prep of Norcross, GA finished in third place in the Junior Prep Division pool.

The following five players were chosen to the Junior Prep Division All-Tournament Team: Tanner Adkins of the BlazeSports Jr. Hawks; Preston Howell of the Charlotte Rollin' Hornets (purple); Hudson Tucker of the Roger C. Peace Rollin' Tigers; Landon Benton of the Charlotte Rollin' Hornets (purple) and Zachary Armas of the BlazeSports Jr. Hawks. Seth Horne of the Lakeshore Sharks was named the Junior Prep Division pool MVP and Samuel Escalante Morales of BlazeSports Jr. Hawks won the Prep Hustle Award.

In the Junior Varsity Division pool, the BlazeSports Jr. Hawks - Varsity of Norcross, GA dominated by going undefeated in the tournament as winning by an average margin of 30.5 points. They defeated the Charlotte Rollin’ Hornets – Varsity of Matthews, NC in the championship game with a final score of 65-29. The Lakeshore Lakers of Birmingham, AL finished in third place in the Junior Varsity Division pool.

The following five players were named to the Junior Varsity All-Tournament Team: Miles Hill of the Charlotte Rollin' Hornets; Elizabeth Becker of the Charlotte Rollin' Hornets; Tyler Tippins of the Lakeshore Lakers; Rontes Williams of the Mississippi WheelCats and Darian Ross of the UAH Chargers. Samuel Armas of the BlazeSports Jr. Hawks was named the Junior Varsity MVP and Phillip Lindsey of the Mississippi WheelCats won the Varsity Hustle Award.

West Coast Conference Championship Tournament (Mar. 3-4)

The Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program hosted the West Coast Conference Championship Tournament from March 3-4, 2018. The Junior Varsity Division tournament took place at the Arillaga Recreation Center, located at 341 Galvez St., Stanford, CA.

The Utah Rush of Henefer, UT had a very strong tournament, winning every game by an average margin for 35 points. Utah defeated ParaSport Spokane - Varsity of Spokane, WA in the championship game with a final score of 50-35. The Seattle Jr. Sonics of Seattle, WA finished the tournament in third place.
