Junior Division Invites Send for the 2018 NWBT

The NWBA Junior Division Executive Committee announced that all Junior Division teams receiving an invite have confirmed their attendance to the 2018 National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament presented by ABC Medical. These accepted invites have pushed the NWBT field of teams to 96, which is the largest in NWBA history. The 2018 NWBT will take place at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky from April 12-15.

Carolina Wheelchair Conference Championship (Mar. 9-11)

The North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center hosted the Carolina Wheelchair Conference Championship from March 9-11, 2018. The tournament took place at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center, Located at 1100 Second Avenue South North Myrtle Beach, SC.

This was a double-elimination tournament. Before the games started, there was a Conference Pre-Tournament Competition that included the following skills: Free-throw shooting, agility and three-point contest.

The Triangle Thunder of Raleigh, NC dominated the tournament, going undefeated and winning by an average margin of 10.6 points per game. They defeated the Charlotte Rollin' Hornets (B) of Cornelius, NC in the championship game with a final score of 59-47. The Fayetteville Flyers of Sanford, NC rounded out the top three teams of the tournament, finishing in third place.

2018 Northern Conference Tournament (Mar. 10)

The Mad City Wheelchair Sports, Inc. hosted the 2018 Northern Conference Tournament for the Junior Divisions on March 10, 2018. The tournament took place at the Princeton Club East, located at 1726 Eagan Rd., Madison, WI, 53704. The tournament followed a round-robin format.

In the Junior Prep Division pool, the Minnesota Rolling Rowdies of Minneapolis, MN finished in first place with a perfect record of 4-0. The Nebraska Red Dawgs – Prep of Omaha, NE finished the tournament in second place and the SportAbility Rolling Panthers of Prairie City, IA rounded out the standings in third.

In the Junior Varsity pool, the Nebraska Red Dawgs – Varsity of Omaha, NE finished the tournament in first place, also earning a perfect 4-0 record. The Minnesota Jr. Rollin’ Timberwolves – Varsity of Minneapolis, MN finished in second and the Mad City Badgers of Madison, WI and the Nebraska Red Dawgs – Varsity of Omaha, NE ended the tournament in third place.

Toronto Rollin’ Raptors D2 Tournament (Mar. 10)

Wheelchair Basketball Canada hosted the Toronto Rollin’ Raptors D2 Tournament on March 10, 2018. The tournament took place at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, located at 875 Morningside Ave, Toronto, Ontario. This was a three-team round-robin tournament.

Edinboro University of Edinboro, PA ended the tournament with a record of 3-1, beating the Toronto Rollin Raptors - DII of Nepean, ON in three games and losing one game to the Toronto Rollin Raptors - DI of Nepean, ON.

Best of the West (Mar. 10-11)

Seattle Adaptive Sports hosted the Best of the West tournament from March 10-11, 2018. The tournament took place at West Seattle High School, located at 3000 California Ave W, Seattle, WA 98122.

Las Vegas YUCCAS DI at UNLV (Mar. 10-11)

The City of Las Vegas and the Paralympic Sports Club of Las Vegas hosted the Las Vegas YUCCAS DI at UNLV tournament from March 10-11, 2018. The tournament took place at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, located at 4505 S Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks of Arlington, TX swept the competition, going 4-0 during the tournament. The University of Arizona Wildcats of Tucson, AZ, Las Vegas YUCCAS of Las Vegas, NV and the Los Angeles Clippers Chairmen of Los Angeles, CA all went 2-2 during the tournament.
