Things to do in Louisville during the 2018 NWBT presented by ABC Medical

The 2018 National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament presented by ABC Medical will take place in Louisville, Kentucky from April 12-15. While most of the days will be spent watching the largest wheelchair basketball tournament ever in the history of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association, that doesn’t mean you won’t have time to explore the Bourbon City.

Here are some of the many activities you can enjoy while in Louisville:

 

Kentucky Derby Museum

Address: 704 Central Ave, Louisville, KY 40208

General Admission: $15

The Kentucky Derby Museum is an American Thoroughbred horse racing museum dedicated to preserving the history of the Kentucky Derby. There is an hourly 30-minute historic walking tour of Churchill Downs Racetrack. Exhibits include, “The Greatest Race,” a 360° 18-minute media experience, two floors of family-friendly interactive exhibits, access to a Gift Shop and Kentucky fare in the Derby Café.

Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory

Address: 800 West Main Street, Louisville, KY 40202

General Admission: $15

The Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory showcases the story of Louisville Slugger baseball bats in baseball and in American history. Attractions of the museum include the world’s largest bat; a signature wall of all Louisville Slugger contract players; a theater showing the original film "The Heart of the Game," narrated by James Earl Jones; a bat vault of Louisville bat models through the ages and batting cages.

Visitors can also hold game-used bats of Hall of Fame players like Mickey Mantle, Johnny Bench and Andre Dawson as well as representatives of all 30 MLB teams. Currently, the museum is hosting the “Legends Never Die” exhibit celebrating the 25th anniversary of the classic baseball movie, The Sandlot.

Muhammad Ali Center

Address: 144 N. Sixth Street, Louisville, Ky 40202

General Admissions: $12

The Muhammad Ali Center is a museum dedicated to boxing legend Muhammad Ali, a native of Louisville. The museum captures the inspiration derived from the story of Muhammad Ali’s life and the Six Core Principles that fueled his journey. Exhibits include a 14-minute introductory film on Ali’s life; a gallery of his artwork and poems; a recreation of Ali’s training camp where visitors can try their hand at boxing exercises; a room of televisions showing all of Ali’s greatest fights and so much more.

Evan Williams Bourbon Experience

Address: 528 W. Main St., Louisville, KY 40202

General Admissions: $12

The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience is a multi-million dollar artisanal distillery, immersive tourism experience and retail location that celebrates the legacy of Evan Williams, Kentucky’s first commercial distiller and namesake of Heaven Hill’s flagship Bourbon brand. The guided tour features an operating Artisanal Distillery where you will not only learn the process for making Bourbon, but you will see it being made right then and there. The tour also includes premium Bourbon tastings.

Angel's Envy Distillery

Address: 500 E Main St., Louisville, KY 40202

General Admissions: $15

Tours are available through reservation only and gives visitors a chance to watch the entire distilling process of Angel's Envy Bourbon. During the tour, visitors will see first-hand the distillation process from beginning, to barreled and ultimately, to finished spirit. The tour culminates with a visit to the distillery bar, The Finishing Room, where the tour ends with a tasting.

Louisville Zoo

Address: 1100 Trevilian Way, Louisville, KY 40213

General Admissions (with discount): $13.25

Opened in 1969, the Louisville Zoo currently exhibits more than 1,500 animals on 134 acres of natural settings representing different climates and ecosystems such as: Glacier Run; Africa; Islands; New World Exhibits (North, Central and South America); Australian Outback; the HerpAquarium and the Metazoo Education Center.
