Junior Division Seeds Announced for 2018 NWBT Presented by ABC Medical

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – The NWBA Junior Division Executive Committee announced the seeds for the Junior Varsity, NIT and Prep Divisions for the 2018 NWBA National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament presented by ABC Medical. The 2018 NWBT marks the 25th anniversary of the Junior Division and National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. With the final seeds being announced for the Junior Divisions, all brackets are now available for the here.

The Junior Division’s Varsity bracket features teams in the top four seeds that have finished their seasons on a strong foot. The TIRR Memorial Hermann Hotwheels of Houston, Texas went undefeated their entire season to finish with a record of 24-0. They will look to continue their undefeated streak during the tournament to top off their perfect season with a National Championship. The BlazeSports Jr. Hawks of Norcross, Georgia enter the tournament as the two seed for the second year in a row, after finishing their season 16-1. The RHI Racers of Indianapolis, Indiana enter the tournament at the three seed with a season record of 21-6. Rounding out the top four, is the WASA Jr. Bucks, who have a season record of 21-4.

The National Invitation Tournament of the Junior Division will feature the 17th to 32nd ranked Varsity teams playing each other for a tournament championship. The top NIT seed went to the Mary Free Bed Jr. Pacers – A of Grand Rapids, Michigan after they finished their season with a record of 14-10. The Mad City Badgers of Madison, Wisconsin ended their season with an 8-19 record, which helped them earn the 18 seed in the NIT Division. The Denver Jr. Rolling Nuggets of Longmont, Colorado are in the 19 seed with a record of 6-7 and the Synergy Jr. Bulls of Carol Stream, Illinois come in as the 20 seed after finishing their season with a 9-12 record.

The top seed for the Junior Prep Division tournament went to the Minnesota Rolling Rowdies of Minneapolis, Minnesota, that had an incredible 18-0 season. They will also be looking to continue their undefeated streak as they enter the NWBT. The LWSRA Hawks of New Lenox, Illinois finished their season with a 26-3 record and enter their tournament at the two seed. The Charlotte Rollin’ Hornets Prep – Purple of Matthews, North Carolina come in as the three seed with a season record of 15-1. This is their second strong year, as they earned the two seed in last year’s NWBT. Rounding out the top four for the Junior Prep Division tournament are the Lakeshore Sharks of Birmingham, Alabama, who hold a season record of 12-5.

The 2018 NWBT presented by ABC Medical will be host to a total of 96 teams represented from the Adult and Junior Divisions. The Adult Division will feature 16 teams from Adult Division I, Adult Division II and Adult Division III. The Junior Division will be highlighted by the top 16 ranked teams in Varsity and Prep divisions. In total, five national championship titles will be awarded at the 2018 NWBT. The Junior Varsity Division will also feature the National Invitational Tournament, which includes teams ranked 17-32 in the Varsity rankings, competing for a tournament championship.
