US Men's Team Visits Children's Hospital Colorado

The United States men’s wheelchair basketball national team visited with patients at Children’s Hospital Colorado on Friday to share their story of success over adversity, as well as educate and promote the sport of wheelchair basketball.

“Children’s Hospital Colorado is where I began my career in adaptive sports,” says Sarah Castle, President of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association and four-time Paralympian. “This visit not only provides patients with the opportunity to learn more about wheelchair basketball and adaptive sports but hopefully will inspire the next generation of Paralympic athletes.”

10 members of the gold medal team from the Rio Paralympic Games return to Team USA where they hope to extend their four year undefeated streak at next month’s World Championships in Hamburg, Germany.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with most of these guys for the last few years and they continue to impress me with their skills on and off the court,” says Ron Lykins, Team USA’s head coach. “They don’t stop at their own personal success - they believe they must pay it forward, encourage new players to get involved, and grow the sport.”

Team USA is currently in residence at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs ahead of the World Championships beginning August 16 through August 26. Check out the team pictures and videos from their visit to Children’s Hospital Colorado here.
