Athlete Applications available for 2019 U.S. Women’s U25 World Championship Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The NWBA is excited to announce it is accepting Athlete Applications for the 2019 U.S. Women's U25 World Championships Team. The U.S. Women’s U25 World Championship Team will comprise of up to 12 athletes that will compete at the 2019 IWBF Women's U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships on May 22 to May 30, 2019 in Suphanburi, Thailand.

All athletes interested in trying out for the 2019 U.S. Women's U25 World Championship Team must complete a 2019 NWBA High Performance Player Application. Please click

The deadline to submit an NWBA High Performance Player Application for Women is 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on Monday, December 3, 2018. 

An athlete may participate on both the 2019 U.S. Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball Team and 2019 U.S. Women’s U25 World Championship Team. If an athlete is interested in applying for the 2019 U.S. Women’s U25 World Championship Team already submitted an NWBA High Performance Player Application for the 2019 U.S. Women's National Wheelchair Basketball Team, please update your application accordingly.

Please read the attached Athlete Selection Procedures for a complete list of athlete eligibility requirements.

To be eligible for consideration as an athlete for the 2019 U.S. Women’s U25 World Championship Team an individual must: 

-Be born on or after January 1, 1995;

-Be a U.S Citizen;

-Hold a valid U.S. passport prior to 2019 U.S. Women’s Selection Camp;

-Be classifiable in accordance with IWBF International Classification system; and

-Have a valid membership with the NWBA for 2018-19.


The 2019 U.S. Women’s Selection Camp will host athlete selection for both the 2019 U.S. Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball Team and 2019 U.S. Women’s U25 World Championship Team. Invites to selection camp will be provided by the NWBA High Performance Selection Committee. The following is the information for the 2019 U.S. Women’s Selection Camp:

January 13-17, 2019 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO

Travel Days Information:

- Arrival Day is January 13th

- Departure Day is January 17th

Housing and meals will be provided by the NWBA. Players are responsible for their own transportation to and from the OTC for selection camps. The OTC Shuttle Service can be provided from the Colorado Springs Airport to the OTC for flight times between 4:30 a.m. MT and 10:30 p.m. MT each day.

For the 2019 U.S. Women's Selection Camp, the OTC will be providing the following shuttle to and from Denver International Airport (DIA):

-One shuttle will be provided for flights arriving at DIA prior to 5:00 p.m. MT on Sunday, January 13th.

-One shuttle will be provided for flights departing DIA after 11:00 a.m. MT on Thursday, January 17th.

Please be prepared to provide all of the following information on your NWBA High Performance Player Application:

-Basic Info (Name, Gender, Age, etc.)
-Contact Info (Address, Email, Phone, Passport, Social Security, etc.)
-Personal Info (Height, Weight, etc.)
-Experience Info (Team, Coach Name/Email, Classification, Awards, etc.)
-Equipment & Apparel (Wheelchair Dimensions, Apparel Sizing, etc.)
-Travel Info (Preferred Airports, etc.)
-Documentation (Copy of Passport and Drivers License)
-Emergency & Medical Info (Contact, Physician Info, etc.)
-Electronic Signature of NWBA Code of Conduct

The 2019 U.S. Women's Selection Camp list of invitees will be announced the week of December 3, 2018.

About U.S. U25 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team
The U.S. Women’s U25 Wheelchair Basketball Team is an international development team that serves as our pipeline to the U.S. Women’s National Team. This program gives our elite youth athletes the opportunity to compete at the international level, obtain their official IWBF Classification and may be entered into the pipeline of athletes for future U.S. Women’s Teams. Team USA won gold at the innurgal IWBF Women’s U25 World Championship in 2011 held in St. Catharines, Canada. The U.S. did not participate in the event in 2015 in Beijing, China.
