COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The National Wheelchair Basketball Association and the Junior Division Executive Committee are proud to announce that the Junior Division is now accepting applications for the 2019 Timothy J. Nugent Academic Achievers. The deadline to submit applications for Timonthy J. Nugent Academic Achievers is 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on Wednesday, February 13.

This program honors and promotes academic excellence for student athletes who are currently enrolled in grades 5-9.  The awards are named after Timothy J. Nugent, who founded the NWBA 70 seasons ago. Dr. Nugent valued education and being prepared for real world success and independence.  We hope the spirit of these awards honor his mission.

Dr. Nugent realized the number one tool to improve a person's place in society was education. The Junior Division remembers Dr. Nugent by pushing the next generation of leaders towards the power of education.

The theme of this year's awards is to promote the great stories within the NWBA. Each student athlete may do a project where she or he tells her or his own story or tell the story of someone she or he admires within the organization.

The application for the Timothy J. Nugent Academic All-Americans for grades 10-12 will be available in early January.

Please note that the Academic Achievers and All-Americans are national programs for the entire Junior Division.  Individual conferences may have their own academic award programs that are not related to these awards for national recognition.

Please submit all applications and questions for Academic Achievers to Kelly Fischbach by email at kfischbach13@hotmail.com or by mail at Kelly Fischbach, ATTN: Academic Achievers, 601 Canby Street, Vermillion, SD 57069.
