COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The National Wheelchair Basketball Association has announced that Molten USA will continue as the official basketball of the NWBA, the world's original and longest standing wheelchair basketball national governing organization. The NWBA’s partnership agreement with Molten USA extends through the end of the 2022 NWBA season.

“Molten feels very privileged to continue the outstanding partnership with the NWBA, the governing body, and the exceptional athletes,” stated Melissa Dawson, President of Molten USA. “We are honored to have the opportunity to accentuate the growth of wheelchair basketball; as well as provide support to the coaches and players with excellent product and service.”

The NWBA will continue to use a Molten model BGL7X for Adult Division II, Adult Division III, Intercollegiate Division Men’s and Varsity for the remainder of the 2018-19 NWBA season. The NWBA will continue to use a Molten model BGL6X for Women’s Division and Intercollegiate Division Women’s for the remainder of the 2018-19 NWBA season.

Competition in the Adult Division I will pilot the use of a Molten model BGG7X for the remainder of the 2018-19 NWBA season, including competition at the 2019 Toyota National Adult Division I Wheelchair Basketball Tournament presented by ABC Medical. This pilot program will allow the NWBA to gather valuable feedback on the BGG7X, while minimizing disruption to our other divisions.

The NWBA will make a determination soon following the 2018-19 NWBA season regarding the model of Molten used for the 2019-20 NWBA season.

"As both a national team player and an athlete competing in the NWBA, this new deal with Molten provides the athletes with symmetry which can only enhance our sport across multiple experience levels," says Steve Serio, who captained the USA to gold at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. "This is a relationship we as athletes are extremely excited about for the future of wheelchair basketball in the United States. Wheelchair Basketball and Molten have become synonymous, which highlights their impact for our sport."

As the official basketball of FIBA and the IWBF, Molten basketballs have gained international recognition and acclaim as a top choice for elite athletes and national federations around the globe. By integrating tradition with innovation, the NEW Molten X-Series basketballs have been designed with acute attention to detail. The new uniform pebble surface provides superior control and precise shooting and passing while the GIUGIARO® design enhances visibility, allowing players to easily track the rotation of the ball.
